Police in Waco have apologised after shooting and killing a Texas couple's dog after being directed to the wrong house after a 911 call.
The black Labrador, Finn, was shot by police last Saturday after the dog "acted aggressively" towards police and lunged at an officer, according to the department.
The dog's owners, couple Cassandra Page and Matt Vasquez, have disputed this claim by the police however. Vasquez has said it is "absolutely incorrect" Finn was aggressive and said the dog was just curious about the officers, according to a Waco Tribune-Herald report.
The couple are now considering legal action against the Waco Police Department and have asked for body-cam footage of the incident to get a greater understanding of what happened, according to the newspaper.
Page described Finn as good natured, light-hearted, curious and very loyal. She also said the couple have barely slept or eaten since the incident.
The police department ended up at the wrong address after its dispatch system autocorrected an address in the 3200 block of North 20th A Street.
A woman had called 911 reporting a burglary in progress at this address. However police arrived one street over at the 3200 block of North 20th Street. The police clarified in a statement that due to the autocorrect, the "A" in "A Street" was removed.
"Our officers acted in good faith to the dispatched address. When officers arrived at the 3200 Block of N. 20th, they saw the backdoor ajar which corroborated information received in the initial call," the Waco Police Department said.
"Officers announced their presence, and shortly thereafter multiple dogs came toward officers who retreated. One dog who acted more aggressively lunged at our officer, retreated, and then lunged at the officer again.

My black Lab will bluff charge you but will stop short of attacking. She was abused in her previous life and is scared of strangers, so she runs up to them while barking. But try to pet her and she retreats. She’s actually a very loving Lab and it’s a shame how people abuse these wonderful creatures.
Imagine how bad it would have been if they had killer Golden Retrievers!
This isn’t happening in Third World nations. It’s happening here.
They seem to do a lot of that, lately.
After J6 and seeing cops let antifa and blm attack Trump supporters, in blue cities, arresting prolifers for praying and a whole host of misdeeds, it's clear that many LEOs are just enforcers for the Demonrat / Deep State tyranny.
Really getting difficult to "Back the Blue".
They'll say the officer's "followed policy"
That's what they say when they shoot an innocent citizen, as well. But what kind of policy allows you to go around blasting innocent people and killing kindly dogs?
No. He won’t. If he had any honor, he wouldn’t be working as street muscle for leftists.
Aren’t “Auto-Crorrect” systems AI things. I hope I get a finders fee from the lawyers for sicing them on to the “Deep Pockets”.
Because the cops were not or did not do any checking out exactly what they were getting into.
I have a Mastif and a Great Dane, you shoot my dogs and I shoot back
As the owner of a 70lb Yellow Lab, NO Cop’s life is worth more than my dog!!!!
Hurt my dog, you will be dispatched to Hell. I’ve had it with trigger happy Cops. Then again Texas seems to be filled with F-ed up Cops lately. Uvalde had more than their share of the F-ed up that fateful day.
Hope the brave Cop slept well that night. SPIT!!!!!
I had a black lab that would back you up if you came at one of my family.
Moron cops should be held down and shot in exact places they shot the dog. Do it in front of the family they raided.
Post a vid of them bleeding out... so we can celebrate in the dog’s honor.
I really would be interested in seeing any copcams on this. I’d be willing to bet it was absolutely unjustified, given the breed.
On the other hand, cops go in with maximum aggression, and then wonder why dogs don’t seem to like them. Dogs are loyal, as opposed to our “public servants” who have a license to kill.
I’m just wondering what would happen if cops blew down the door unannounced to the wrong house and the homeowner opened up on them killing several.
I’ve known quite a few black labs during my life.
The only “aggressive” behavior I’ve ever seen from one is their demands that you pet them, throw a stick or frisbee for them and love on them.
R.I.P., Finn. :(
That happened in Houston a couple of years back. HPD broke down the door to a couple’s house. They were not criminals. The homeowners thought it was a violent break in. Shots were fired all around and in the end the husband, wife and dog were all dead.
HPD said “oops.”
I have a Chocolate Lab that unless you are in my inner circle of family and friends will not let you get anywhere close to me. He’s backed three people off already without any urging from me.
