A father forced his grossed-out young daughter to gut a fish he bought at the store to teach her a “life skill” — and he’s now asking strangers on the internet if it was wrong to do so after his wife grew angry at him.

The 38-year-old dad of two girls, 13 and 10, posted in the popular Reddit group “Am I the A–hole” to ask that exact question after teaching his older daughter to debone and descale a fish against her will.

Fair_Moose_4755 explained that he and his wife have been teaching their girls a variety of “life skills such as cooking, cleaning and car maintenance” and recently the family went on a camping trip. His oldest daughter learned to make the fire, pitch the tent and go fishing, he wrote.

Gutting a fish is a lot easier than gutting a warm mammal.
Do these kids not get biology in school any more?

I changed plenty of diapers and it never bothered me - too much. I’m also the one that cleans up any spills or animal messes in the house.

My wife takes care of elderly people - yeah, I hope it is a long time before I have to do what she does.

She is also fine with sticking her fingers in the dog’s ears to clean all the goop out. I hold the dog, mainly so I don’t have to do what she does!

gutting a fish is not in any way important to becoming an adult...

perhaps men don't realize what having menstrual periods and carrying a baby inside you and then pushing the baby out thru a small orrifice entails....maybe they should try doing what women do.....

most men can't handle a soiled messy diaper or vomit on the floor and they're worried about a 13 yro gutting fish?.....

Thirteen year old girls aught not be concerned with giving birth. As they mature, I hope mom is around to take care of those lessons.

It is the "Big Picture" we need to teach. I also taught my daughters woodworking, metalworking, and shooting. To this day, she does all three even though she birthed three incredible grandchildren.

Those babies are learning woodworking and metalworking at this time with mom doing the teaching.

Spread those wings. Its a lovely life.
