A California school board meeting descended into chaos on Tuesday when protesters began fighting in the street amid a debate over whether to recognize Pride month.
Glendale Unified School District was due to hold a vote on officially marking Pride this year - as they have done for the last four years.
Protests had been peaceful during the day, but around 6pm scuffles broke out between around 200 protesters and counter-demonstrators.
School administrators said many of the protesters did not have students in the district.
Police deployed around 50 officers to the scene, CBS News reported. Cops used their batons to break up the mob, who were throwing punches.
They ordered the protesters to disperse and threatened to use force to break up the crowd.
Their efforts failed, prompting officers to arrest at least three people, on charges of using pepper spray and obstruction.
Many of those at the protest believed that the board was discussing the gender and sexual identity curriculum but this was not the case.
'Bringing in curriculum for K-6 on gender ideology, that is what we're against,' said Any Torosyan, a Glendale parent.
Torosyan told KTLA 5 that she believes money should be spent focusing on improving students' testing scores.
Another protester, Philip George, also believed the meeting was about the curriculum. 'We were talking about children,' he told KTLA.
'They are not ready for such choices. It confuses them and ultimately these are things that parents should decide.'

Go and look at the video, everybody. The group that caused trouble at the end was clearly Antifa (on the side of the trans, of course). They’re masked and clearly dressed for trouble.
The report makes it sound like it was the parents but it wasn’t. The trannies are pretty aggressive, but this looked to me like support from Antifa.

The trans folks and antifa are often the same. They definitely under the same umbrella. It’s my understanding that many antifa are trans - it’s where their militancy comes from. The whole ‘non affirming words are violence’ causing the ‘trans genocide (suicide)’, therefore actual violence is required against ‘fascists’. That is their logic, so they probably really believe they’re ‘anti-fascist’. In an upside down moral world it makes perfect sense.
This whole thing is spiraling out of control at an insane pace.
Bring that a large portion of Klantifags are transvestites, it’s not hard to understand what side they fall on.
