Former Target executive said the retailer's biggest mistake was selling 'tuck-friendly' swimwear for Pride, which has led to a $12billion loss since mid-May.
Former Target Vice Chairman Gerald Storch believes the company's controversial 'tuck-friendly' swimwear set Target's Pride collection apart from others for the worst.
'I've never seen a case where one item, that tuck swimsuit, that's really what made the difference versus the competitors. That's where the big mistake [was] made,' he told Fox and Friends.
He said other companies carried colored plates and gingerbread houses and that's 'fine' because 'who cares? Everybody carries that stuff.'
Target suffered another financial setback after JPMorgan downgraded its stock as its market value plummeted by $12billion, amid backlash to its controversial LGBTQ Pride product release.
'Target stock has certainly been performing poorly off 11 percent year-to-date. So that's not good, and certainly, this boycott of the whole issue here isn't helping. It's very distracting to have that going on in the business. But there are more fundamental concerns with that, with the environment, with the consumer and with the business here,' Storch said.
The brand's shares dropped for the ninth consecutive day Wednesday, falling by a further 2.14 percent as the company is in the midst of its longest stock-losing streak in 23 years.
Before the controversy, the company's market value had been $74billion, with shares trading at $160.96 at the close of markets on May 17.
And despite efforts by the brand to backpedal on its disastrous campaign, continuous stock falls led JPMorgan to downgrade its stock from 'neutral' to 'overweight' on Thursday, citing 'too many concerns rising.'

So if you are in the state of Florida and you see one of those he-she’s in the women’s changing rooms you now have the right to order them OUT and if they don’t leave they will be ARRESTED!
I flew back to Boston from Florida once and sat next to the young lady in question.
We had a nice long chat - but she certainly held up her end of the deal with Rocky's estate, despite my excellent interviewing skills.
True. That mess was greenlighted by higher ups. If Korporate Amerika hadn’t created such a hostile work environment against straights someone might have raised a question if this was a good idea or night.
They should go bankrupt.
Ok Noble-you’re story is worth money. Hope the folks at People Magazine payed for it. If not there are others.
Why aren’t all the Target employees buying this up for their own kids and families, and extended families? Why aren’t the top officers wearing it with their wives and husbands, and dressing their kids in it? Where are the tv ads showing this?
It may take years.
Think of Sears/K-Mart. They made a few less than wise decisions. They slowly lost market share and then began to collapse rapidly. They are not technically out of business yet, but have less than 20 Sears stores remaining and only 3 K-Marts. But, people didn’t hate them, they just lost market share due to competition and a series of bad decisions.
It took 25 or 30 years.
But, Sears was huge when they first started sliding, and K-Mart used to be bigger than Wal-Mart. If Target looses another 10 to 15% of its sales they’ll have to start closing stores.
The object is to keep the sales down. Let them bitch and moan about how narrow-minded their customers were and alienate more people.
They can be taken down. Don’t let up. The longer this goes the easier it becomes
We have a Target nearby and I was hoping that at least our local store would have stayed clear of the “pride” crap.
I walked in, immediately saw a large gaudy pride display with the rainbows and sone really strange-looking clothes on two mannikins, reversed course and headed out the door.
Damn freaks are everywhere and my money goes to any other business that sells stuff and omits the deviant garbage.
Sadly, they are spoiled rotten, you’re right.
Although none of us wanted to lose our jobs, but almost all of us were glad to not have to deal with their bathroom policies that were starting to creep in.
And the local Walmart survives because of pricing, along with a somewhat more extensive selection across similar products. Although I have noticed that the selection at the Walmart is getting more focused, probably to provide shelf space to what has sold well recently. Last time we were there, my wife wanted to get something from an aisle, but we had to go around the in-store shopper with their multiple order cart trying to get pick-up orders ready for somebody to pick up without getting out of their car.
The other attraction of the local Walmart, is based on the clientele I see there, it's one of the few places where I would even consider wearing a Fauci mask to avoid contamination.
The sheer stupidity of endorsing “tuck friendly” merchandise for children begs to be punished.
I’ve bought food at Target and never noticed what they were supposedly spotlighting. Maybe I wasn’t looking, maybe it wasn’t Pride Month, or maybe the store managers were too smart to go along with the trans/lesbian themes, but I do wonder if all the stores went in for this stuff.
They want to intimidate and demoralize us.
The game is on....
Never give in...never give up....
A $12 billion loss. Pretty soon, we’ll be talking about some real money. They don’t care. They’re too locked into their roles as f#ck chimps forntheir DIE/ESG masters.
I can answer for only one store, ironically the Target in downtown San Francisco, two weeks ago.
There was no such thing there.
Tar-gay is now dead to our family.
Image the poor children that will end up getting these swim suits when Target donates these to some disaster relief in some third world country for a hurricane/earthquake/volcano eruption so Target can write them off! Who is going to explain them?
Wanna see if they REALLY think it was a mistake? Watch what happens from here. Do they find a non-obvious way to continue selling the same crap? Do they still sell PRIDE stuff in their stores?
