Money quote:

Ryder proposed that Disney could have instead set the live-action film in Haiti after slavery was overthrown, with Ariel meeting Prince Eric in the wake of real racial harmony and not sacrificing historical accuracy.

Does Mr. Ryder mean the Haiti of 1805? I suppose one can say there was "real racial harmony" because all the Europeans and mulattos were murdered by the blacks in 1804 leaving one race in the new nation. How ironic Ryder complains about slavery being erased yet sees to suffer historical amnesia citing a so called real historical example.

‘erasing’ slavery

In the USA we tore down statues of Democrats to erase who was for slavery.

Why bother to pander to those woke kooks? No matter how much you pander to them it is never enough. Invite them to take a flying leap at a rolling dounut!

The only thing “Little Mermaid” is erasing is Disney’s profit margin.

Yes. I would like to see a movie made about the 1804 Haitian Genocide. I bet this guy would complain about it too saying we need to forget about some things.

You see, this is what happens when you stop teaching things like Aesop's Fables. If they had read "The Man, The Boy and the Donkey" they could have absorbed the lesson of "when you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one".

But they didn't.

And now everybody hates them.

Just can’t seem to make people happy. When the characters of a movie in a remake is changed to appease racial problems which is nothing more than appearance in an animated fantasy, and it doesn’t meet someone’s reality, then we are truly misidentifying our purpose.

I can’t remember the appearance of a mermaid, talking sea creatures, and evil magic done in the world, even separately, that it warrants anything other than imagination and not a comparison to the reality badly created by man. It’s fantasy folks, not reality. So don’t try to make it reality. You’ll only ruin the escape of the fantasy from the horrors of reality.

The entire story has been changed and bastardized.

Here is about the best review of the entire mess.

“From the creative vacuum that is modern Disney, the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid sacrifices all of the charm and fun of the original in the name of personal politics and photo-realistic fish. It boasts wooden and flat performances, glacial pacing, forced and unnatural dialogue, and questionable CGI.”

Mermaids are not real so why should the fantasy world of the Little Mermaid be encumbered by reality?

They’re jealous of these movies and have to blackify them then call everyone RACIST when they hate the movies or complain

So Mr. Ryder believes that mermaids are real? Or does he not grasp the concept of fantasy anymore, having taken his own fantasies for reality for too long?

In either case, what an idiot.

So Disney thought a black mermaid would get on “their” good side? Guess again.
