Hamburger and a strawberry milkshake: Restaurant throws WWII veteran a 100th birthday party

A World War II veteran from Nebraska recently had an extra special 100th birthday party.

All Alfred Zieg wanted for his birthday was a hamburger and a strawberry milkshake from his favorite fast-food chain, Runza.

Runza said they learned of his request from an article in the Lincoln Journal Star.

On Alfred's 100th birthday Wednesday, a Runza location in Lincoln made his request happen.

The restaurant had a special table for Alfred with birthday balloons and decorations, plus a cake and a card.

Runza shared an adorable video from Alfred's party on social media.

"We are honored to have served him his 100th birthday meal! what a guy," Runza posted on Twitter.

May God bless him and all the veterans who sacrificed to let us keep our Republic up to this moment.

That’s amazing. I love seeing stories like this.

We need more men of his caliber. I hope his birthday is/was a blast.

In a fair world, he shouldn’t have had to buy another beer for the rest of his life.

It could be worse they could have thrown him a Drag Show where they severed Bud Lite

I’m not familiar with Runza’s, but based on their website, it looks like a pretty decent fast food burger.

Great story until I realized that the focus was on a Swabee.

Actually, it is a delightful report and I would donate to that Chain for their excellent actions here.

Runza is good. they are bierocks done commercial. they are pretty much limited to Nebraska. but they do have some in North Kansas, Colorado and Missouri. Wish they would go nationwide or at least bigger so I could get them in Alabama.

For fast food, probably one of the better burgers. Going to get a 1/2 dozen Runzas to take to my son in DC. Mix of cabbage, hamburger and spices encased in baked dough.
