I Discovered a Trash Dump on Mt. Everest — and Picked up 440 Pounds of it

Last week, a mountaineer named Mingma Tenzi Sherpa scaled Mount Everest for the ninth time — but instead of appreciating the beautiful view, he found himself filled with revulsion for what he saw around him.

As he climbed to the summit of the mountain, Tenzi observed a disturbing amount of litter, including sanitary pads, hiking gear and steel bowls and spoons.

Tenzi took to Instagram to share a video of the mess, which showed a closer view of tents, sheets and ropes left behind. “We can see the lots of tents, empty oxygen bottles, steel bowls, spoons, sanitation pad, paper [sic] a lot a thing which is used by humans,” he wrote in the caption.

I think the trash situation at Everest has been a problem for years.

It’s hard carrying stuff up. Easy to leave trash there.

Just a guess.
There is at least one dead body very near the summit.
Just throw it all over the side?

I’m impressed. Until now I had no clue the Occupy Wall Street folks could climb Mt Everest.

So here’s an idea: throw that sh*t off the mountain. Tallest point on earth so it has only one place to go, down. It shouldn’t take much effort, just a nudge or a push. They could even send the frozen bodies to a lower elevation.

It is sobering to think ,there are dead bodies up there.

Just saying, you have to be in tip top physical condition, to be a mountain climber in the first place. And even among those in outstanding condition, some die up there.

Apparently it is too arduous to try to retrieve dead bodies from up there.

There was a climber died last month that had a pacemaker. She wanted to be the first one fitted with a pacemaker to climb Everest. She failed. Actually the Sherpa guides can drag almost anyone up there and back. All that is required is money.
Regarding bringing dead bodies down, if they are not frozen to the ground, push them over the side, let gravity skate them on down!
It would be like “Bowling with Bodies”!

I thought years ago that they could set up one of those construction-site trash chutes going clear down the mountain. Climbers could also get down that way, or maybe someone could build the world’s longest zip-line.

As he climbed to the summit of the mountain, Tenzi observed a disturbing amount of litter, including sanitary pads, used condoms, cans of Chef Boyardee, hiking gear and steel bowls and spoons.

There are about 200 bodies up there.

They are either left or brought down with due respect.

No. They are not thrown over the side.

Yep. When these “firsts” take place, the credit should go entirely to the sherpas. With enough oxygen canisters they could drag Chris Christie to the summit. Last month there was a story about the first above-the-knee double amputee reaching the summit.

The world's first zip line where riders achieve terminal velocity.

Not the street “toughs” but their monied masters have been doing it for generations.

Frozen poop bags, like the ones required to be carried and used when hiking Mount Whitney.

I guess the feeling the folks who left all that trash behind are “Save Da Erf” types.

Why?

Do you think it should be treated differently then the others?

If so, defend.
