The Russians defeated the Germans with large numbers of mostly inferior weapons. Stalin said words to the effect that quantity has a quality all of its own.
Chinese researchers conduct simulation showing how China’s new Death Star threatens the entre galaxy.
My worry isn’t so much that China will actually have a capability that imperils our navy.
My worry is that China will think that it has that capability — and then do something stupid.
I would have preferred working on a defense to Hypersonics BEFORE picking a fight with China over Taiwan, but then I’m not a Neocon.
“...which showcased China’s military sinking the carrier fleet..”
Really. For a computer simulation to be that precise, the Chinese would have to have intimate knowledge of the carrier’s defense capabilities.
And would anyone think that the Chinese would ran a mock battle and admit, “Hell, we could not do a damn thing with the fleet.”
.
There is a simple question that is a predicate to any simulation or war-gaming scenario: do the Chinese have the weapons and delivery systems to strike the carriers and how do the carriers’ defenses, on board and in their supporting aircraft and vessels, stack up against any such Chinese systems? It’s best to start out, IMO, by putting as many assumptions to the side as possible and being by just focusing on the technical capabilities.
The Chinese goal is simply to deny access to the waters surrounding itself and Taiwan. Its not about invading Hawaii, controlling the Indian Ocean, or even the straights of Malacca. Its a porcupine strategy.
They can/will launch many hundreds of missiles. They only need a few to get through and hit their targets
war games always have a predetermined outcomes, using the worst case scenario. Imagining that an actual war would play out that way, is just plain foolish and hyperventilating clickbait.
Chinese internal goods, building, military equipment etc are all made by the lowest bidder using the cheapest materials but sill able to pay the highest bribes. Case in point: the Chinese homemade carrier now has a giant crack amidships on the flight deck.
Are they copies of the Russian failed hypersonic missiles ? LOL
One Word: Lasers.
Putting the “Hype” in hypersonic. These missiles slow to subsonic speed in order to maneuver in their terminal phase. 24 of them shouldn’t overwhelm a carrier task force; The Aegis-equipped escorts should be able to handle them. However, our woke Navy seems to have trouble with basic navigation so our air defenses may end up being Moskava level in practice.
More hypersonic hype.
24 missiles isn’t exactly an ‘onslaught’
a real battle with china would involved hundreds if not thousands of missiles per hour
remember... china does everything in scale
If countries unit they can cripple China economically it would damper their war machine by a great deal it takes money to keep one active.
did anyone expect the Chinese to announce any different results?
I read a thread yesterday here on FR that 5 of our subs could wipe out the entire Chinese navy with cruise missiles alone.
