To be fair, who would have ever believed people's heads would become filled with such nonsense? This is a modern phenomena that was simply not possible decades ago.
You have my sympathies, and the only thing I can suggest is to use levity and comedy to try to persuade people differently from what they have come to believe.

The Socratic method of debate is highly effective in small doses. Asking the other person to validate their conclusions with facts may affect new thinking.
