The sheriff's office has also announced that, now that they have identification, they also have persons of interest.

They are also working to identify other DNA left behind at the scene to try to connect the case with possible suspects.

Why go to that kind of trouble to prevent identification? Wouldn’t it be far easier to just bury the body in a deep grave or weight it down and dump it in a body of water where it would never be found?

That is true, but for a lot of serial killers, there is a sexual thrill, even if they do not do anything overtly sexual to their victims. They tend to be sadists, so they can get sexual satisfaction just from exercising that kind of power over an unwilling victim.
