“Song of the South” counts among its ensemble Hattie McDaniel, the “Gone With the Wind” star and first Black entertainer to win an Academy Award. In a 1947 interview, she told the American publication The Criterion, “If I had for one moment considered any part of the picture degrading or harmful to my people, I would not have appeared therein.” Her co-star James Baskett echoed her support of the film, saying, “I believe that certain groups are doing my race more harm in seeking to create dissension than can ever possibly come out of the ‘Song of the South.’”

Not to give anybody any ideas or anything but if someone were to download something like bit torrent for free and then go to Torrent sites like the Pirate Bay or Limetorrents, they could find just about any movie or TV show or software or game they wanted and download them for free. They would need to have a VPN so that their anonymity is preserved and nobody like the cable company could know what they were up to.
Of course that would be terrible and rotten and horrible and our dear friends in Hollywood and Big Tech would be denied any profit from those downloads, so I would never recommend such a thing.
Stick to the topic. The movie was about a free man who was revered in his community for his storytelling.
Everyone in the U.S. today is participating in labor exploitation, child abuse and human trafficking through the effects of our corrupt electoral system, and our tax dollars. How about rubbing some guilt in your own face.

This is Racist? It should be the poster for what is going on today.

The lefties hate blacks. They can’t stand to see black men befriended by white kids. The same they can’t stand to see black people on their tables so they ban Aunt Jemimah and Uncle Ben. The lefties only want to see blacks subjugated to the democrats in their own ghettos.
It is a wonderful movie, and the Left hates it because it shows black people happy.
Was anything I posted about what Hattie McDaniel experienced not true?
And if my saying that chattel slavery and Jim Crow laws were wrong and makes me "a woke leftist race baiter" so be it.
As for Aunt Jemimah, you might want to look up the history of that.

I remember going to a video store in UK and finding it on the shelf in the 90’s. I was as so surprised to see it there. I wish I had rented it and copied it.
Ignore the racists on this thread.
Thank you for the information. I’ll check it out.
Got the CD case - can’t find the DVD. Dying over here.
be fun to see. got a link?
James Franklin Baskett was given an Honorary Academy Award in 1948, making him the first Black male performer to receive an Oscar. Can’t have minorities winning awards before affirmative action.
And I am now inclined to believe it is exactly this sort of lying that has been told regarding the civil war every since the 1860s.
Some time back I got into a discussion about whether slaves were actually abused. I tried to find other examples (beyond that one picture of a former slave's back having been whipped badly) and I couldn't find any.
Abuse of slaves doesn't make any sense because it is counter productive to the value of slaves or the economics of it.
Thinking about this is when I began to wonder if abuse of slaves was actually a lie spread for propaganda purposes.
I now think more than likely it is.
Now your northern n*****'s a negro
You see he's got his dignity
Down here we're too ignorant to realize
That the North has set the n***** free
Yes he's free to be put in a cage
In Harlem in New York City
And he's free to be put in a cage
On the South Side of Chicago
And the West Side
And he's free to be put in a cage
In Hough in Cleveland
And he's free to be put in a cage
In East St. Louis
And he's free to be put in a cage
In Fillmore in San Francisco
And he's free to be put in a cage
In Roxbury in Boston
They're gatherin' 'em up from miles around
Keepin' the n*****s down

I am 100% certain that “some” slaves were horribly abused, the same as some people today horribly abuse their pets.
But I am also 100% certain that many slaves were treated extremely well, the same as some people today treat their pets almost like family.
I hate taxes too, but how much is "too much"?
We are forced to work whether we like it or not. This is the nature of human society. Our slave masters sit in Washington DC and enjoy life at our expense. They produce nothing useful or beneficial, they simply absorb the fruits of our labor.
