With all the dumb, drunk Mexicans driving 30 year-old beaters I do not like this. They have to show insurance to pass inspection. That is useful. So is checking tire wear. Get rid of illegals before doing this. Also get rid of paper dealer tags that are widely counterfeited

I don’t know how happy you should be about lost jobs repairing and maintaining automobiles. The byproduct will be a reduction of safety on the highways.
With the real intended end result being less fossil fueled vehicles running we have here another green initiative foisted upon us thinly veiled as it may be.

Ohio has no periodic inspection, although I think some urban counties require a smog test. I don’t see any jalopies in my area, which is said to be the poorest county in Ohio.

Exactly. Texas is like only 1 of 13 states to still require inspections. Lots of noise here. Probably mechanics and Rinos.

I was forced to get an inspection on my new car before I could register it in TX. It had 57 miles on it. Absurd.

I call bullshit.

Cars pass inspection one day, and can be dangerous the next and stay that way for a year. Inspection is just a money grab for the state, and a chance for mechanics to generate income.

Removing mandatory inspection doesn’t make it legal to drive a dangerous car, they can still require good tires, good brakes, etc. without forcing you to prove it one day per year.

Other states have no annual inspection and you don’t hear about carnage due to everyone driving around on bald tires and no working brakes.

Likely so, but for people who live in “EPA Non- Compliance Zones” (over half of Texans), we still have to deal with annual “Emissions Inspections”.

I’ve lived in San Antonio for 50 years. So I know the odds of being hit by a Mexican with no insurance in a junker car.

Therefore I’ve always carried Uninsured Motorist insurance.
