Tina Turner dead at 83: Singer revealed 'I want to be remembered as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll... a woman who showed it's OK to strive for success on your own terms' in final interview just six weeks ago

In her final interview just six weeks before her death, Tina Turner said she wanted to be remembered as 'the Queen of Rock 'N' Roll'.

The iconic singer died at her home in Küsnach near Zurich, Switzerland, today at the age of 83 following a long, unspecified illness.

Her representatives confirmed her death, saying: 'With her the world loses a music legend and role model.'

On April 9, in what are believed to be her final public remarks, she told The Guardian how she hoped the world would remember her - and how she did not fear death.

'How would you like to be remembered?' the Guardian asked.

'As the Queen of Rock’n’Roll. As a woman who showed other women that it is OK to strive for success on their own terms.'

Asked what 'scares' her about getting older, she replied: 'Nothing. This is life’s full adventure and I embrace and accept every day with what it brings.'

Sharp as ever, Turner joked about whether she'd like more sex, money or fame - 'at my age, is there another option?' and told how she was enjoying 'anonymity in retirement'.

Turner is survived by two of her four sons - two preceded her in death - and her 67-year-old husband, Erwin Bach. The pair married in 2013 after dating for nearly 30 years.

Among the first to lead tributes to her today was Mick Jagger, who she shared electrifying on-stage chemistry with.

'I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer.

She really is an example of a woman who gained success on her own terms - real success. Not the BS that today's Woke culture calls female success. RIP Tina.

Wanda Jackson is the Queen of Rock and Roll in my opinion. Rockabilly anyway.

I’ll take Tina over Aretha any day. “What’s Love Got to Do With It” was a fave.

I thought about that as posting this. I just did not want to put Ike in the spotlight. She survived Ike and needs to be remembered for everything in her life not just that looser.

Not everyone can be the queen of rock and roll. I thought Linda Ronstadt already was called this.

Tina.... Not my kind of rock and roll. I liked Patty Smyth and Pat Benatar. Patty Smyth was the hottest thing on MTV for a while.

Tina should lie in State, and when Hillary croaks, she should be dumped in a ditch in Mexico.
Unfortunately, for the winner of America’s biggest loser,
there will be a 3 week demfest, putting Wellstone’s death rally to shame.
R.I.P. Tina Turner
