One could argue Grant’s Vicksburg Campaign deserves to be ranked as the best in American military history. Audacious, brilliant maneuvering to position the Union Army inbetween the different Confederate forces and defeating each in detail. Napoleon would be impressed by Grant’s seizure of the central position.
The Lee family would sue the Federal Government for seizing the Arlington estate. I believe one of Lincoln’s son would meet Lee to have him a check.
Vicksburg surrendered on July 4th, 1863. The fourth of July would not be celebrated there for another 80 years. General Pemberton’s uncle invented Coca-Cola to treat his own wound that he received during the Civil War.
