A new report by the Climate and Health Alliance has suggested the Irish diet and food system is like a slow-motion disaster, fueling premature death and disability due to diet-related chronic diseases.

The report calls for the ending of the junk food cycle and a switch away from processed foods to more plant-based diets.

The report said the global food system can feed the world, but it has also made people heavier and sicker.

The report also said it destroys wildlife, pollutes rivers and air, and is responsible for a third of greenhouse gas emissions.

The report is concerned that ultra-processed foods and excessive red and processed meat are dominating the Irish diet at the expense of fruit, vegetables, plant proteins, whole grains, and sustainable seafood.

The Alliance has called for a special Cabinet sub-committee to oversee “a food revolution” and for the farming industry to be a key part of the solution. …

Nah, bad sexual practices and other associated practices like hard drug abuse have nothing at all to do with it . . . right?

I’ll take a slow-motion disaster over starving from a potato famine.

They are half right, but fruits and grains should be in the first category, and red meant (not highly processed) should be in the second category.

A lot of people that eat Scottish food, in fact there’s a Scottish chain of restaurants right here in America that is not overlooked at all, it’s called McDonald’s.

Scottish invented fried chicken too, it was the Creoles and the Africans that put the spicing together but the method of deep frying chicken in oil came out of Scotland.

Like it or not, America eats the cuisine of the Scots.

Here's a delicious traditional full Irish breakfast

Black and white pudding, sausage, bacon, sunny-side up eggs, grilled or roasted tomatoes, fried mushrooms, and buttered toast.

The report said the global food system can feed the world,

The main reason some people go hungry is that they do not have the skills needed to get money to buy food.

But these people expect US to contribute to them.

Since “they” would prefer that most of us die, why are they warning us of the dangers of a diet that they oppose?

Well, they’re named after Clan McDonald.

Also, in the movie “Time After Time”, Malcolm McDowell’s character referred to McDonald’s as “that Scottish place”.

Fitting for this thread, the chain was actually named for its McDonald brother founders, who were the American sons of Irish immigrants:

(I believe “McDonald” is the Irish spelling and “MacDonald” would be the Scottish spelling.)

Both Irish and Scottish use “Mc” and “Mac” variants actually. The Gaelic word “mac” means “son”; Viking and Saxon influence is why you have both “McDonald” and “Donaldson” in use in the British Isles.

Re: Mac vs. Mc, it is not nearly absolute, but much more commonly divided as I suggest.

And the McDonalds who founded the restaurant that the chain grew from, again, were of Irish, as opposed to Scottish, descent.
