New research has identified the month when people have the strongest suicidal thoughts, and that these thoughts occur a few months before the peak of suicide behaviors in spring/early summer. It also showed the daily peak in suicidal thought is between 4-5 a.m.
Most people assume suicide rates will be highest in winter, yet spring/early summer is when suicidal behaviors peak and this finding has baffled researchers since first identified.
Brian O'Shea and René Freichel show that suicidal thoughts are, in fact, highest in winter (December), and they developed a conceptual model for why suicidal behavior takes a few months to reach a "tipping point." They also found that the hours of 4-6 a.m. are when people are likely the most vulnerable to taking their own lives. Additionally, they found a general increase in negative self-harm cognitions across the six-year period of the study.
"It may come as a surprise that spring, a time when you would assume people's mood lifts, is actually the time of year when people are most at risk of taking their own lives. The reasons for this are complex, but our research shows that suicidal thoughts and mood are the worst in December and the best in June.
The findings show a latency between the peak of explicit and implicit suicide cognition in winter and the peak in suicide attempts and suicide deaths in spring. Explicit suicide cognition that peaks in December preceded implicit self-harm associations, which peak in February. Both these peaks precede the peak of suicide behavior in spring/early summer. Similar lagged effects were observed in a 24-hour period, with explicit suicidal cognition and mood peaking at 4-5 a.m. and implicit cognition lagging this peak.

Life is worth living.
Went to Target last night for the first time in months. Saw something that made me smile.
Above each of their self checkout stands is a sign that says “Self Checkout.”
I asked my daughter “aren’t they afraid those signs will trigger people who are suicidal?”
Depression etc. has always been really hard for me to understand. I always seem to find a happy way to deal with life’s troubles. I just get through and smile the whole time.
Typically, just after an election where a conservative wins.
I realize you and I are fortunate in that area, but it goes to show, once again, nothing good happens at 4 AM.

Prayer would save many of these lives. Instead we medicate.
I figured it would be around or on Christmas at or around 2 AM.
Make it legal.
Memorial Day is dangerous time of year. Juneteenth just as bad.
I always seem to find a happy way to deal with life’s troubles.
You are truly blessed.
"Dear, my mom has said that she can come stay with us over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year after all!"

Well ain’t that dandy? ;)
Not me. I’m a grumbler ... but I like it that way!
“Not me. I’m a grumbler ... but I like it that way!”
I’m generally a pretty easy going person, I’ve worked hard and I enjoyed the fruits of my labor. I’m not a grumbler per se, but for BS. There seems to be a lot more BS and out there these days and then there was when I was young. Maybe I just didn’t notice back then.
I also don’t feel the need to complicate anything in life. And people who complicate things in life generally don’t like me very much because I think they’re stupid for wallowing around in complicated, emotional, self-made, stupidity.

Spring cleaning....
I’m awake at 4 and 5am often, my thoughts are I can go back to sleep for another hour or two.
