I blame the higher numbers on the flying deer . . .
Although truth and accuracy is not the mode-o-day, wouldn’t it be more accurate to show fatalities as a % of total motorcycle riders in the state to find the safest/most dangerous state for motorcycles?
Deaths are per motorcycle. The highest death rates are in southern states. You think they might drive their motorcycles more per year because of the weather? Duh.
But aside from that, yes the deer and moose around here are out of control. And my freezer can hold only so much of the former.
Another interesting article. It would be interesting to know when the fatality involves a car what percentage of those drivers are impaired. I know in New Mexico, even with low traffic density, it happens a fair amount. (I once rode 100 miles here and didn’t see another vehicle).
The problem can be solved by outlawing 8 simple words from the state vocabulary.
“Hey y’all, hold my bees and watch this.
I’ve lost at least 5 friends. All 5 were legally riding. Everyone heart breaking. Florida.
In my part of Texas, one dies about every three weeks. Half the time hit by a car, the other half rounding a wet curve and hitting a tree.
Most all bikes nowadays are equipped with front and rear cameras. It makes it much easier to lawsuit the daylights out of car drivers who can’t seem to pay attention while driving.
The problem with motorcycles is no protection from so many idiot drivers no matter how defensively you ride.
About 350,000 miles on motorcycles since I was 17. I still ride about 7-10000 miles per year. Current bike K1300S. It’s a monster.
If you ride a motorcycle more than even a little bit, you WILL fall off or get hit.
That would be the Motorcycle Rider's State Of Stupidity, hands down!
All of them, frankly.
I wonder if lane splitting may be involved. I’ve been on the road for 50+ years and I would say the least ten years, I have seen VERY bold riders lane splitting. I rode street for 20 years, and used lane splitting judiciously. I’ve seen some very dangerous moves. Makes me think these riders think they are immortal.
And never has there been so many absolutely stupid young motorcyclists on the road…at least every day on 495 between LI and NYC.

After riding motorcycles for over 50 years on the street.....I finally gave them up. I got out alive. Everybody, virtually everybody is on their phones now while driving. And that ain’t good for those on motorcycles. No way........no more.
I drove across Texas on my motorcycle. I think the fact that they go 90 mph on country roads might contribute to some deaths there.
I see them flying down the interstate at about 180 MHP. So why should we be surprised.
