Daydreaming the Guns Away
American Thinker ^ | 14 May, 2023 | W.R. Wordsworth

Those who dream of eliminating all private gun ownership in the United States face the prospect of a devastating legal defeat.

We find ourselves living in a highly consequential time for the legal clarification of the 2nd Amendment. Extremely aggressive, wide-ranging bans of semi-automatic firearms have been enacted in various parts of the country, drawing legal challenges. While the ultimate resolution of these challenges is unknowable, many observers believe the Supreme Court will eventually arrive at a decision prohibiting the wholesale banning of semi-automatic firearms. Those who dream of eliminating all private gun ownership in the United States face the prospect of a devastating legal defeat.

One can imagine their looming disappointment. They have failed to appoint Supreme Court justices who would effectively redefine the 2nd Amendment out of existence, and they are about to bear the consequences of that failure. But from their perspective, there is comfort to be had in the prospect of eventually stripping the 2nd Amendment from the Constitution altogether, no matter how long it may take.

Such is the hope that animates aspiring intergenerational social reformer Allan Goldstein, who, in his "Let's get serious and repeal the Second Amendment" has stepped forward to boldly launch a 50-plus year plan to eradicate all privately owned firearms in the United States.

Perhaps the piece might have been better entitled "Let's Get Hysterical." How galling it must be to be deprived of so obvious a good -- a gun-free society -- on account of something as frivolous as an obsolete, suicidally-construed constitutional amendment. On Goldstein's account "[t]he Supreme Court has decided that 'a well-regulated militia' includes gang bangers and wild-eyed loners with a grudge." What a shame Goldstein did not bother to provide a citation to the Supreme Court decision in which this is asserted.

Our nation is a Conservative nation. The margin is 65% Conservative to the other group of 35%. The lamestream media tells nothing but lies. Control the media and one controls the nation. America is not communists. I too pray your prayer but with a bit of different seasoning. God Bless You !

I differ in this thought.

America is pretty well split 50/50 with the cities being liberal. The cities have the people that in turn allow control of the city, the state and then the Republic.

If there is a majority of conservatives as you (and Rush) suggest, there would not be a useless gridlocked Senate. Conservatives would control the nation with no fear of the need for 60% of all Senate votes

About 20% of first-time firearms buyers are women.

The dramatic upswings in robbery, rape, assault, home invasion, car-jackings and murder sharpens the minds of potential victims.

The police are not coming. Those perps who might be arrested are turned loose.

That leaves you with self-defense as your remaining option.

Dead perps do not continue endless crime sprees.

Or Rwanda or Cambodia. But then again, we always have to explain the peaceful example of Mexico where guns are basically forbidden. /s

I feel as if I am back in the 1960s when the democrat politicians and news media demonized small handguns as “Saturday Night Specials” and screamed for a ban on 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles.

The end result was a ban on imported small handguns and a ban on the import of 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles.

Then they went after American made handguns and began to look at bans on rifles.

I guess the gun grabbers haven’t realized that most states are loosening gun laws not tightening them. State after state is passing constitutional carry.

“No danger of that here.”

Understand. I feel the same. But, it would likely be a bridge too far for most folks. Refusing would probably be a felony, be subjected to search warrants, jail time, antto fees, etc. most folks have jobs, familes, other responsibilities to consider.
Crossing the Rubicon most would not be willing to do. Just saying….

” won’t be long till the anti gun people are in the majority.”

That’s why the sales of weapons continues to break records, as anti-gun people become the majority.

Rolls eyes.
