Trump vs. DeSantis 2024
None | 5/13/2023 | Ebshumidors

I’ve been watching the Trump vs. DeSantis showdown here and have a few questions. I voted for Trump twice, worked the phones and poll watched for him and am convinced he was the only one for regular Americans. He had the right policies for us. I have two concerns. He is supposedly a germaphobe and I think that influenced his decisions regarding Covid. He also didn’t have a team behind him. Many stabbed him in the back. How would it be different if he was elected for another term?

Regarding Desantis, I watched some of his Iowa stuff and he seems to say the right things. He may even be to the right of Trump on some issues. He also seems to have a good argument about what he’s done in Florida. He doesn’t have Trump’s suburban housewife baggage (who my wife of 31 yrs asked how many times Trump’s been married - she voted for him and we’re not voting for a Pope) but I’m sure they’ll come up with something to hang on him. I know that many have said that he’s beholden to big donors.

I’m on team fight it out for the nomination, After that, I’m on team how do you fix the rig and how do you win I haven’t heard any of that from anyone.

Trump only spent a few thousand of his own money on his 2020 campaign. The vast majority came from donors, including big money donors, corporations, a few huge law firms, etc.

This “Trump is independent because he’s a billionaire” line is utter garbage. In 2020 he was backed by big donors just like any other pol. Look it up at the FEC website.

To all those who spout the “Trump is beholden to no one because he’s rich” line, do you listen to yourselves? All else equal I’d much rather be governed by a man who grew up middle class and made it to Harvard on a scholarship, than by the son of a multi-millionaire who made it into a billion or so and has no idea how average people live.

Freepers used to admire self-made men; now they want their presidents to be billionaires. Amazing.

The President doesn’t have the authority to shut down anything outside U.S. government jurisdiction. The CDC can’t impose restrictions like that. It can only issue guidelines.

And yet, they did.

He didn’t impose it, you claim, yet:

A good many of DeSantis supporters believe that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. But that doesn’t mean that he should automatically get the nomination because he was wronged. Yes he was, but we don’t do coronations in this country.

You completely missed the point.

The point isn't that the election was stolen and that Trump deserves a coronation.

The point is that the election was stolen and Trump minus the election fraud can win a second time.

And it answers the DeSantis talking point, that Trump can't win.

I guess some perceived RINO taint should be enough to turn your back on the Republican nominee and let Biden win a 2nd term. Right. Got it.

Trump issued guidelines. DeSantis locked down his state.

No, we won’t see a lockdown order with Trump’s name on it because Presidents don’t do that. What they do is declare a national emergency, go on TV and state that we need to all lock down for weeks to “flatten the curve.” Then they ask Congress to appropriate a gajillion dollars to pay for lockdowns so governors have the funds, and thus further pressure, to lockdown. Without all that none of the states could have afforded to lockdown. After the states lockdown he then publicly derides the first governor (Kemp) who dared to come out of lockdown.

That is the true history of the lockdowns. Germophobe Trump was the driving force behind lockdowns. He declared them, he financed them, he promoted them and he was publicly an ass about them to people who weren’t panicking like he was. Trump owns the lockdowns, and anyone who thinks otherwise is re-writing history and fooling themselves.

You are attributing words that I have not written relative to DeSantis. Of course, DeSantis and even Pence, Hutchison, Haley, etc., would be better than Biden. However, I suspect that the same forces that have foisted a string of RINOs on the Republican electorate: the Bushes, Dole, McCain, and Romney, recognize that someone with a moderate record can no longer be pushed on the more conservative portion of the electorate. It is possible that they are encouraging DeSantis to run in the hope that they can control him if he is elected.

Has any President, with the partial exceptions of Reagan and Trump, managed to curb the growth of Federal government and the promotion of leftist, anti-family ideology? The old saw that the Democrats want to take us over the cliff at 60 mph, while the Republicans would do it at 30 mph is true. The country needs serious reorientation. Trump has had his failures, but he has all the right enemies, both Democrat and RINOs. He may not be the epitome of Christian morality, but we are electing a President, not a pastor.

What’s amazing is how ridiculous that statement is. DeSantis is a self-made man? What are you smoking? DeSantis is no more a self-made man than Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, or any other career politician. And your false choice between self-made men and billionaires is just that.

It used to be we judged a man on what he did with his life, not the circumstances he was born into. So Trump was born into a wealthy family. Big deal. Unlike a lot of trust fund babies, Trump took the leg up his family fortune gave him and did something with it, building his company far beyond what it ever was under his father.

As far as DeSantis being a self-made man, I’m surprised you were able to type that with a straight face. DeSantis had little money to speak of before he entered politics. Now he has a war-chest worth millions of dollars to spend on his campaign. Where do you think that money comes from? Unlike Trump, self-financing his campaign isn’t an option. And DeSantis can’t rely on small, individual donors to the degree Trump can. Your “self-made man” gets most of his campaign cash through wealthy donors and is more dependent on them than Trump has ever been.

Trump had potentially a big advantage in having plenty of his own money (if he used it - that is debateable). It was a great thing.

What I don’t like, and perhaps others here, is the hypocrisy. We don’t mind rich people, for sure. I don’t judge based on that. BUT FR used to parrot the “working-man’s” line that we were tired of these “rich” people who knew nothing about really regular life ever, much less being poor. Yes, Bush was included in that.

Along with that I saw plenty of spouting off on how they have to be MIL people; defending Bush because he “only” had NG service when Dems tried to attack that (despite Klintoon never serving either).

So basically we never hear these “principles” anymore since Trump. He was born with the silver spoon, and he never served in MIL. I’m sure there are many hypocrites here who are EverTrumpers who used to complain in the past that Joe Republican never had to scrape by, or never was in the MIL. We don’t hear it anymore.

Maybe you should check the 2016 results again.

Trump didn’t manage the popular vote. He did get just the right places to win the electoral - which had the Dems screaming again about how unfair the EC is. Hitlery was whining, alot like Trump later, about how it was stolen from her.

Okay, you equate Hillary's claim about cheating with Trump's.

You make my point going back earlier in the thread.

DeSantis and many of his supporters don't think that Trump lost in 2020 because of the steal.

While what you’re saying is true as far as it goes, for many of us, Trump’s emergence on the scene caused us to rethink some of our assumptions on these issues. And reality is too complex to explain with cookie cutter analysis relating to a person’s wealth, station in life, military service, etc.

Elitism is a frame of mind, which many wealthy people embrace. On the other hand, elitism is not limited to just the wealthy, and not all wealthy people embrace it.

In addition, there are differences between wealth that’s been handed down for generations and wealth that’s been acquired more recently. And yet even that doesn’t necessarily determine what someone will believe, for while wealth and upbringing do influence a man’s outlook, they’re not the only things that determine his character.

There’s a big difference between someone born into a wealthy family who tries to make his own way, and someone who doesn’t.

Dude is obviously the stalking horse of the Uniparty of criminal “Aristocrats” who are soiling their britches in fear that this outsider who already won two consecutive elections will get elected again, expose their lawlessness, and possibly get them locked up. The ‘rats know RD can be bought and controlled, and their ripoff of the peasants can continue without fear of exposure. PAST TIME FOR PEASANTS LIKE YOU TO WAKE THE HELL UP AND DEMAND YOU BOY DO SOMETHING WORTHWHILE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR HIM WHEN DJT CAME TO HIS RESCUE!

Well poor trump didn’t even bother to show up for his rally. Too embarrassing for him. He’s a piece of work.

You’re such a loser you have to deny reality.

pay close attention to who it is your enemies are most viciously attacking and VOTE for that person

The Dhimmicraps and RINOs (like the Lincoln Project) that I've encountered spend most of their time lately attacking DeSantis. (Sometimes, just to play with their empty little heads, I ask them why they're carrying water for Trump.)

RD, by the way, according to those who are closely watching and listening to him, is making it increasingly clear that he is very much an establishment Republican in the image of the McCain, Romney, and Bush branch of the GOP.

Quite hte contrary. He is doing everything they wouldn't.
