A U.S. Army officer says a squatter moved into her DeKalb County home while she was serving on active duty, and now she can’t have him evicted.
She told Channel 2 Consumer Investigator Justin Gray that she found out when her real estate agent was making final preparations to sell the house.
“He’s not a tenant. He’s a squatter,” Lt. Colonel Dahlia Daure said.
There are ‘beware of dog’ signs in some windows and cardboard covering others at her Ellenwood home in DeKalb County.
Daure says someone she’s never met moved in without her knowledge or permission, and now won’t leave.
“I was beside myself and I felt violated. Had I not been serving my country, I would have been in my home,” Daure told Gray.
Daure is full-time active-duty command staff with the U.S. Army Reserves and is stationed in Chicago.
She was renting out her metro Atlanta home, but after a $35,000 renovation, she put it up for sale.
“I got a cash offer. It was under contract,” she said.
That’s when Daure says Vincent Simon apparently moved in. Simon claimed he had a lease and that he’d paid $19,000 upfront for six months.
“The police call the number that’s on the lease. It doesn’t exist,” Daure said.
Daure went to the police and was told it was a civil matter.
This week she served Simon with eviction papers, but he has a right to respond and have the case heard by a judge.

Let Freedom Ring............
I’ve always wondered why they can’t get them on Breaking and Entering charges (criminal).
That was painful to watch.
This post goes out to everyone here who doesn’t seem to take the time to consider ANY thing other than their own predispositions to hating people that their media gods tell them to hate.
Legion5999 was a Freeper. He introduced me to this site. He passed away of cancer. But before he did, he was a squatter.
A dirty, thuggy and criminal miscreant that you guys are painting a picture of here.
He rented an apartment for about 8 years. But in his final year he was paying that rent and the owner had DEFAULTED on the mortgage.
The owner was literally stealing his money. The bank came to kick Legion out, cancer and all.
Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and he was given a chance to find another apartment from the current owner’s good graces.
This squatter was more than likely responding to an online ad for the apartment. He was shown the apartment and a fake contract was written up. His money was taken and the scam artist fleed.
When the subject of the article returned from deployment, they found this person living there. We are made to assume that this tenant held the apartment like it’s a game of King of the Hill. Like he couldn’t be forced out.
The owner and the police are likely working with this poor soul to find another place to live.. but that person has been scammed out of $15,000. It’s a shame and I hope people are coming together not to utterly destroy this guy.
So please, freepers.. Stop being so damned angry. Sheesh. The media worked well on you.
Stacy Abrams?
Evict? How about forcibly removing by any means necessary.
But that is what should be. What should be and what is are not even in the same ballpark.
Once you list the house and pictures of the empty house are listed you have announced to the world that there is a nice place up for grabs. People who are overseas can "rent" your property out and never step a foot in the US. It has happened.
So, especially in states where property rights are not protected, having a house sitter can prevent you from having squatters or people coming and trashing your unprotected property for the fun of it.
Her first mistake was not just going g to the house when he wasn’t there and putting all his chit out on the curb and changing the locks. Never involve the cops or govt.
It is an upside down world...
All part of communist theology that forbids private ownership...
They have Bandidos in Atlanta? I thought Atlanta was Outlaws.
= = =
You tell the Outlaws that the squatter is a Bandido.
Wonder if it’s this Vincent Denard Simon?

“I FEARED FOR MY LIFE, SO I NEUTRALIZED THE THREAT...”
Grand Theft?
How about just telling the police that a fentanyl operation is at that address?
I do not understand how this is not trespassing, breaking in entering, burglary, theft, fraud, etc. All criminal matters. Nothing about this is a civil matter, as there was no contract between the criminal and the owner.
Evict him from life.
Since when is criminal trespassing a "civil matter?"
It's been said that a number of police forces are here to protect the government they serve but not you and I.
My sense is that for many police forces - serving and protecting the citizen is not at the top of their priority list.
You could bulldoze it.
But baring that you need to have a demolition permit.
And one of the things they check before issuing one is if there is anyone in residence. Someone there, legally or illegally, no permit.
