Ground contact allows the plant to grow additional roots. My father would cover vines with dirt as they spread along the ground. A good thing to have case you get damage from squash vine borers. I guess that will be something you need to monitor as it grows. Good luck!
I put some finely chopped straw around its base and hammered a stake in. In the barn I found one last piece of chicken wire and made a tube and dropped it around the plant. If it gets away from me or needs dirt contact it’s next to the Pak Choi which will be done and harvested by the time the squash plant gets big.
