That is a crocodile, but not because gators hate salt water. It’s a croc because it has a narrow snout as opposed to the broad alligator snout and because it has many exposed teeth when its mouth is closed. You hardly see any teeth when a gator’s mouth is closed.

The head & teeth of the American crocodile doesn't look anything like the animal in the news story. And a croc's fourth lower tooth should be visible. None of the animal in the news story's lower teeth are visible. Plus the American crocodile is a grey color.
Looks like a ‘gator, to me.
According to the video news report farther down in the article, Dolphin Island Coast Guard confirmed that it is an alligator.
First thing I wondered reading the excerpt, didn’t even click through to the article/pic.
Nope - it’s a gator - I see enough close up to recognize one being in coastal Mississippi.
