The text from her son Randy that Heather Bacchus received at at 1:26 AM on July 17, 2021, seemed like good news.

“I’m quitting weed for good and want to surround myself with healthy and happy people,” he wrote. “This has been too much for me and for you guys.”

Less than an hour later, at 2:09 AM, a second text arrived.

“I love you and am sorry for everything. I love dad and the same to him. I wish I would have been a better person.”

It was his suicide note. That night, Randy killed himself.

...Now research suggests they were right: a study published by the National Institutes of Health warns that cannabis use is implicated in 30% of cases of schizophrenia among men aged 18 to 30.

its harmless and it only makes you mellow and hungry...so I'm told....

it has no effects on mentation...so I'm told....

I knew it was a mistake to legalize it or decriminalize it....

but like the scamdemic and the poisonous vaxx, people just do not really think...

And, who didn’t really know that pot was bad? All along. But, all the dope fiends wanted their fix, no matter what it did to the people all around them. I have people tell me all the time that pot is not addictive, and then when I say,”Good! Then you will have no problem putting the stuff down for the next 12 months!”, it is like panic city in their eyes.

“What, a whole year without my dope???”

Stupic, frigging dope fiends!!!

Well, childhood trauma would be the freudian view, for sure.

I just don’t subscribe to it.

People who are a abandoned while experiencing poverty, trauma and/or mental illness are the only reason they choose to poison themselves over living their life. NO DRUG feels better than living healthy in a supportive environment.

Experiments have been done on animals where they are given the choice of the strongest heroin or a comfortable healthy existence and they stay off the heroin when given that choice. Because good life feels better than poisoning themselves.

While Animals living under toxic conditions would consume the heroin until death.

The issue is not the substances but the conditions and philosophy we live under

Rest assured, the legalization of marijuana is clearly an expansion of big government.

How much did the government grow during alcohol prohibition?

That said the costs to society are massive and long-term far outweighing any short-term gains.

Local community got a brand new state of the art fire/police 911 center here in town thanks to pot taxes. A very small community up the road just replaced a 60 year old school with pot taxes. I'm curious, can you name these "massive and long term costs"? Or we just making generalizations here?

Have another toke.

Thanks, I will. I deserve it, too. After a long payday at work, just got done paying some bills. Dropped a few dollars in savings and at 5 o'clock, when I leave my management level white collar position in an office setting job. I'd say I definitely deserve it.

I must be smoking it incorrectly, however. Everyone keeps saying it makes you lazy, but in almost 30 years of toking, I've accomplished an awful lot, from graduating college with a BS, Business Administration Degree while raising a family AND working 2 jobs. That was a fun time in my life. Come to think of it, now that I'm up against 50, I've never had any issues with schizophrenia, either. It's almost like it depended on the person or something. Could even be akin to the gun issue. Not the gun, but the person.

Yes, there is a lot to what you say.

I’ll just leave it at that, dear fellow FReeper :)

From Colorado.

Here are some of the important findings from the report:

For every dollar gained in tax revenue, Coloradans spent approximately $4.50 to mitigate the effects of legalization
Costs related to the healthcare system and from high school drop-outs are the largest cost contributors
While people who attended college and use marijuana has grown since legalization, marijuana use remains more prevalent in the population with less education
Research shows a connection between marijuana use and the use of alcohol and other substances
Calls to Poison Control related to marijuana increased dramatically since legalization of medical marijuana and legalization of recreational marijuana
About 15 people are severely burned as a result of marijuana use per year
People who use marijuana more frequently tend to be less physically active, and a sedentary or inactive lifestyle is associated with increased medical costs
Adult marijuana users generally have lower educational attainment than non-users
Research does suggest that long-term marijuana use may lead to reduced cognitive ability, particularly in people who begin using it before they turn 18
Yearly cost-estimates for marijuana users: $2,200 for heavy users, $1,250 for moderate users, $650 for light users
69% of marijuana users say they have driven under the influence of marijuana at least once, and 27% admit to driving under the influence on a daily basis
The estimated costs of DUIs for people who tested positive for marijuana only in 2016 approaches $25 million
The marijuana industry used enough electricity to power 32,355 homes in 2016
In 2016, the marijuana industry was responsible for approximately 393,053 pounds of CO2 emissions
Marijuana packaging yielded over 18.78 million pieces of plastic
The researchers felt strongly that Colorado needs to have an important conversation about the presence of THC in fatal car crashes and suicide and they included these numbers in the report without attaching a monitory value to the loss of life. They pointed out that these are preventable deaths and if we’re serious about stopping THC-related car crashes and suicides, we need to explore these issues further.

The research firm used to create the report is QREM, a third-party evaluation firm serving non-profits and many of Colorado’s most reputable foundations.

I dabbled a bit in college, but soon I began to notice that everyday potheads were some of the most useless & annoying assholes around. And I just didn’t want to be among them.
