I prefer to remain stuck in the 80’s.I prefer to remain in the 70’s … BUT, the songs in this video/Spotify Top 10 Rock list are pretty interesting, if not decent. I’m a prog rock guy mainly, so my tastes are rather specific. That doesn’t mean I don’t listen to other music, but I’m not a kid anymore and hear music all the time. Literally, the number of hours I can listen to music is substantially less than as a teen. However, I have been making a concerted effort in finding new music. It’s there and it’s a matter of finding it. I highly doubt my tastes will change at this point in my life, but there is a little room to stay semi-up-to-date.

If you read my music posts on this site, you'll know that I'm stuck in the 1920's and 1930's. But there are still a few acts playing good rock and roll, like the High-Flying Combo, whose 2020 opus
Are You Ready? is solid!

Yeah, I like classical and rock and nothing in between. Strange, I know.

As for the old FReepers who think new music sucks, you're wrong. Indeed, commerce works. Get off yer assez, go out to a bar/club, plunk down $10 for a cover charge and hear 4 bands play their guts out. Two bands will suck. One will be ok. But then you'll find that one band that blows your socks off Agreed. And it’s always been that way. As for Rick’s selecting this playlist from Spotify, I think it has to do with the number of Spotify listeners compared to other streaming services. The playlist is automatically generated by the number of listens a song gets. Beato once compared other top lists of the same genre from multiple music streaming services and they mostly consisted of the same songs. That was a couple years ago, so I don’t know if it still holds true.

Last good rock song was Highly Suspect’s “Lydia” in 2015.
Last number one rock single on the Billboard Top 40 was Nickleback “Rockstar”.
It’s a long way from Paradise City……..

50’s to 90’s here. I have not an iota of a clue what passes for “pop” music since then. About coincides with America no longer being the country I grew up in.

When he did the top 10 pop songs on Spotify a couple weeks ago, it was totally depressing. But these rock songs are showing some signs of life. The mood of the comments section seems to be that rock is having a bit of a resurgence, and I think they may be right.
