CA Gov. Newsom declines to back reparations checks, says slavery's legacy about 'more than cash payments'

FIRST ON FOX: California Gov. Gavin Newsom declined to endorse the cash payments – which could reach as high as $1.2 million for a single recipient – recommended by his reparations task force, telling Fox News Digital that dealing with the legacy of slavery "is about much more than cash payments."

"The Reparations Task Force’s independent findings and recommendations are a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing. This has been an important process, and we should continue to work as a nation to reconcile our original sin of slavery and understand how that history has shaped our country," Newsom said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

While the Democratic governor applauded the task force's work, he declined to endorse any specific recommendations, though he pledged to continue to "advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians."

"Dealing with that legacy is about much more than cash payments. Many of the recommendations put forward by the Task Force are critical action items we’ve already been hard at work addressing: breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility — all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue," he said.

"Following the Task Force’s submission of its final report this summer, I look forward to a continued partnership with the Legislature to advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians."

The task force's recommendation breaks payments down by types of historical discrimination. For instance, Black residents affected by redlining by banks would receive $3,366 for each year they lived in California from the early 1930s...

Translation: there’s no money to pay for this . We only pretended we would consider this foolishness as a sop to the yowling maniac “community leaders.” The other 93% of the population wouldn’t stand for giving the equivalent of three years of the entire state budget to the other 7%. Thanks for playing. Back to the plantation, please. The election is 18 months out, and we expect you to come vote for us, a 90-10 margin will do quite nicely

Have the villagers in Africa who capture the people in other villagers and sold them to anyone pay reparations.
Slavery is still happening in Africa.

California is already bankrupt. Where would the money come from? Companies and middle class are already fleeing the high taxes.

For instance, Black residents affected by redlining by banks would receive $3,366 for each year they lived in California from the early 1930s...

Lots of people lived in neighborhoods affected by "redlining." Lots of people will therefore come forward demanding recompense.

So how will the state commission determine who is "Black?" Better get out the infamous "brown paper bag" to perform the necessary comparison of skin tone! Or better yet, just pull out this chart:

I, personally, self-identify as "High Yaller" - so how much $$$ do I qualify for?

Regards,

I noticed he saved this genteel slap in the mouth for the after dinner News Cycle. Ha!
Just wait till all those ‘Urgent’ committees and panels get wind of this. The Gov. just kicked over their skycraper of a sandcastle, and smiled as he did so.

It had to be done eventually. May as well let the wailing and gnashing of teeth begin now, long before any debates or conventions. I predict the Dems will have a few debates.
A lot of up and comers will need debates to raise name recognition with the public.

Then if he’s running, you know this will be a national thing where the government will be handing out the big reparation checks.

Most likely the results of focus groups and private polling have come back and he wants to pretend he never had a thing to do with reparations groups.

Not to mention that the slow genocide on the black population since the Civil War has made them almost a nonentity in American politics.

Millionaire Arnold Schwarzenegger might have his hand out for a check too, just based on his name.
“I was born a poor black child in the ghettos of Austria, and kidnapped to California!”

What about reparations for whites?

Black crime has driven whites out of previously safe, nice, low-income neighborhoods. To avoid black crime, whites must now earn more money so as to live in a safe, affluent neighborhood.

Many working class whites can't afford to buy in affluent neighborhoods, so they rent tiny apartments to remain in a safe neighborhood.

Black crime has seriously harmed whites economically.

As for the emotional, social, and familial costs of black crime (for those whites who are directly impacted by black crime), the harm is much more serious.
