Amazon.com ...... is offering U.S. customers $10 to pick up a purchase rather than have it shipped to a home address, as the e-commerce giant joins other retailers in racing to slash costs for home delivery and returns amid slack consumer demand. ........................................................................................................................

"We offer customers a variety of ways to get their packages, inclusive of delivery and pickup options. The $10 Amazon Pickup promotion isn't new," the company said in a statement. Amazon did not say for how long this or similar pickup promotions have been in use.

I dropped communist amazon years ago. They hate people like me so I will not give them any of my money.

When Amazon first became a big thing I made observations about what I saw as three major flaws in their whole business model. The first is the problem with returns. The second is the security of deliveries after they are left at someone’s home.

The biggest flaw is that by delivering merchandise right to a customer’s doorstep, the company is taking on the expense of one step in a supply chain that customers used to do themselves — namely, transporting the merchandise from a “store” to the home.

I received an Amazon order on time yesterday. The box was empty. Though, to their credit, they sent a replacement about 6 hours later after I immediately notified them of the error.

The idea of prime was that they deliver. Without that there is no reason for it because that is what people sign up for.

Maybe they should go back to the old days of Service Merchandise and open stores.

But can they open one in every one of coming 15 min cities? America has become a disorganized and unrealistic joke of itself.

The reason I prefer Amazon Locker is the proliferation of porch pirates. I’ve had a couple of deliveries stolen.

I use the pickup locker for every shipment where that is possible. No delay of an extra day. I can even predict that the shipments will be delivered at approximately 2 PM.

“May as well shop at a regular store.”

Not for me. Most of what I order isn’t available in local stores or I’m not going to go all over town trying to find the stuff.

Note that Amazon is giving us a choice. Doorstep delivery comes at a cost. Someone has to pay it.

We recently ordered a bulk package of AA batteries from Amazon. What we got was a DC motor controller for a golf cart! Go figure….
I’m not paying $350 for that! It’s going back…

I don't know about anybody else, but I am paying $14.99 per month for Amazon Prime, to have them deliver to my door. I would gladly accept $10 per shipment to pick packages up from a local delivery point. I am a heavy user, so I would make a huge profit, but they have not offered my the deal

Why not pay a one time annual fee of $120 instead of the $180 you are paying at $15 x 12 months?

BTW, if you are paying anything it's not a profit, it could be a savings, but not a huge profit.

I agree. I like Amazon because local stores don’t offer the choices you get with the Amazon concept. Some items I have ordered from there aren’t available at any store near here.

Things like pieces and parts of items I can find there in order to fix something that I might have thrown out because I couldn’t get the part.

Wow!

That would be $10 profit if I drove an EV to pick up the package.

Tell them you never received your package. They’ll send you batteries and then sell the motor controller on eBay. Unless you signed for the package that was delivered.

My closest pick up point is a 15min walk to grocery store. Thought I would try it with latest order. I do alot of unlimited kindle reading mostly space operas, history, and mysteries.

Yeah, I suppose I could do that. I would to see the face of the person who ordered the dc controller but got my batteries instead…😮
