The Reens did a few Beatles covers albums, and recorded a cover of The Who’s “Tommy”.
I love Patti Smith’s version of Gloria. I don’t think I knew Van Morrison did it originally.
This is a great thread, going to have to listen to a bunch of these tunes!
You triggered something else with me. “Mr. Bojangles”, by David Bromberg.
Any Fifth Dimension cover of Laura Nyro.
“The Who - Young Man Blues (Live At Leeds)“
Completely changed my outlook on playing drums. Moon was superhuman on this.
Dont forget blinded by the light...
Found this cover of For Your Love by Humble pie a few years back…became instant play list material for me. All acoustic and Marriott’s voice drips with soul.
Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun (The Crocker Bank of California) (Okay, Paul Williams)

Long ago, in a reality far far away a radio station in LA (KROQ I believe) put out a Devo tribute album called “Devotees”. Each song performed by a different person or group. Mostly consisted of covers of Devo songs, but the standout was a version of “Okie from Muskogee” done in the same style Devo used for “Satisfaction”. Though I have long since lost the album, that rendition of Okie is by far my favorite.
Got To Get You Into My Life - Leonid & Friends (Earth, Wind & Fire cover)
Harry Nilsson's "Without You" is better than Badfinger's original.
The Beatles' versions of "Twist and Shout" and "Rock and Roll Music" were better than The Isley Brothers' and Chuck Berry's originals, respectively.
The Blondie version of "The Tide is High" is better than The Paragons' original.
Neil Young's version of "Four Strong Winds" is better than the original Ian and Sylvia version.
Kenny Rogers' version of "Green, Green Grass of Home" was better than the original and every other cover.
Never My Love - 5th Dimension
The sound of silence by disturbed most definitely
Thunderstruck by 2 Cellos
Here’s another from Hubby, and he is right! Iris Dement’s cover of Merle Haggard’s Big City.
Blue Moon: Connee Boswell (1934), The Marcells (1961)
