best cover ever
Patti Smith’s is pretty epic. If you’re into angry punk tinge being added to a song about killing your ol lady.
10,000 Maniacs, Because the Night.
Jimi Hendrix' version of "All Along The Watchtower" was better than the original. Same with the Byrds' version of "Mr. Tambourine Man," and Rod Stewart's "Forever Young."
Other than these Dylan tunes, I'd say the Manfred Mann version of "Blinded By The Light" was better than Springsteen's original.
Bob considered his live playing of his own song, post-Jimi’s version, a kind of cover of a cover.
Jimi’s take is mind-warping, and may be one of the best rock songs ever
There are a lot of covers of Dylan songs that are better than the originals. And I ❤️ Dylan.
All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix and Forever Young by Rod Stewart are two of my faves.
Agree that Bangles version is great.
LMAO.
“All About That Bass” was redone by Post Modern Jukebox and it is WAAAYYY better than the original!
speaking of alex chilton, Big Star’s cover of VU’s femme fatale is fantastic

Sloop John B - The Beachboys
Loves Gonna Live Here Again….. Kacey musgraves
Yeah, agree 100% on the Dead’s version of Mama Tried.
Never heard that! The great benefit of threads like this. Campbell and Rivers delivered the heartbreak, but Isaac Hayes sinks it to the marrow. One of the great things about albums in the sixties and seventies is that they could deliver what the radio could or would not. Thank you for the reference.
As a huge fan of “The Who Sell Out”, Petra Haden (Charlie’s daughter) did a full A Capella cover of all the songs on the album.

Haven’t heard that one in a while, either. Now we are stirring up some dormant memories...
The Who - Young Man Blues (Live At Leeds)
They’re good at it
Yep
