Fogerty is now embarking on his first tour since getting his song rights back
John Fogerty said this week he feels like the songs he wrote for Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) more than 50 years ago at the start of his career are finally "home where they belong."
"To get to play my songs now, feeling like they truly are home where they belong – and I get to sing ‘Proud Mary’ just like I sang it when I was 22 years old," the founding member of CCR told NBC News in an interview this week.

He was also sued by the Fantasy head Saul Zaentz in 1985 for plagiarizing the songs he wrote. The U.S. Supreme Court eventually sided with Fogerty. "I’m the dad [of these songs]. I created them," he told Billboard earlier this year. "They never should have been taken away in the first place. And that hijacking left such a massive hole in me."

**Most. Over-Rated. Evah.**
Lol. I remember trucking in the TX, LA, AK area years ago, and thinking, “No, Louisiana is not ‘a mile from Texarkana’. It’s more like 30 miles from the border.” But, if you have never been there or can’t read a map, you would never know his lyric was not true.
My wife and I agree that his voice was always too nasal.
Mr. Greed, why you got to own everything that you see?
Mr. Greed, why you put a chain on everybody livin’ free?
You’re hungerin’ for his house, you’re hungerin’ for his wife,
And your appetite will never be denied
You’re a devil of consumption; I hope you choke, Mr. Greed
How do you get away with robbin’?
Did your mother teach you how?
I hear you got away with murder,
Did you do your mama proud?
Mr. Greed, why you got to take more than you can ever use?
Bring ‘em to their knees; isn’t it enough just to win while they lose?
You bring no honor to the game, you feast upon the blood and pain,
But the bones you hoard can only bring you shame
There’s corruption in your path, be that your epitaph, Mr. Greed
How do you get away with robbin’?
Did your mother teach you how?
I hear you got away with murder,
Did you do your mama proud?

Selfishness destroyed a hell of a great group.
They might have surpassed the “Bugs” if they had not got to fighting.
How many “hits” has your band created? Are you on the Billboard charts?
“I once met a guy from Lodi, California, and I asked him what he thought of CCR’s ode to the town (”Oh Lord I’m stuck up in Lodi again”). He laughed and said the song was on the playlist of every high school dance there as pretty every teen in town dreams about getting the hell out”
Reminds me of The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek” that mentions Lake Charles, LA (my home town). At one time or the other, that segment was the bumper music for every radio station in the area and the song was played at nearly every party.
**There’s a bathroom on the right**
Lol! That’s what I thought he was saying for years!
“How many “hits” has your band created? Are you on the Billboard charts?”
Why the snark? I think you misread my comment. That said, I have accompanied people who’ve had hits.
Troubadors. People worship them. Look at the mob that worships Taylor Swift.
Younger Cop:
And was there anything of value in the car?
The Dude:
Oh, uh, yeah, uh... a tape deck, some Creedence tapes, and there was a, uh... uh, my briefcase.
Younger Cop:
[expectant pause]
In the briefcase?
The Dude:
Uh, uh, papers, um, just papers, uh, you know, uh, my papers, business papers.
Younger Cop:
And what do you do, sir?
The Dude:
I’m unemployed.
Apologies for the snark. I snapped. My bad.
No worries, thanks.
Since this was a song about a gambler, for years I always thought it was "stuck in low die again" with low die meaning dice.....LOL!
You finally validated what my wife has told me she heard, as well. One could do, and some have done, an entire comic bit about misunderstood lyrics. Such as “bald-headed woman” for the BG’s “more than a women,” or “chicken and rice” for “staying alive.”
That’s pretty impressive. That’s quite an accomplishment.
After the winter we had, that’s a great song for the cigar box guitar!

A lot of singers/bands sent cease & desist orders to Trump during his campaigns. I don’t disparage those signers or bands one bit. You either accept that these people own their work and can do with it as they please or you buy into the leftist “I can do whatever I want” crap. I love Trump as much as any MAGA rightwinger but Trump has always been a do first ask for permission second” kind of guy. If he didn’t ask for permission first then I don’t hate those groups. It is what it is.
I remember how old I was when I learned that Fogerty was from SAN FRANCISCO!!!!!
Still think they were a great band!
John WAS CCR. Prove me wrong.
What’s really crazy is that Grand Funk wants to do a 50th anniversary tour without Mark Farner. That’s pretty insane.
