As I stated, I realise I am not qualified to speak on this subject.
Yes. A rider is invisible.
Also, always have a bail out plan.
Never trust other drivers.
If in doubt, back down and let the other vehicles have the road.
I use the invisible man routine when I’m driving anything, even my one ton pickup. Many drivers these days exist in an alternate reality called Oblivion.
Yep. Took a defensive driving course when I was 16. Instructor drilled it into us: Drive as if everyone else is out to get you, and always have a plan to avoid a collision. Requires active attention to driving/riding, but will keep you alive.
When you ride, do so as if you're INVISIBLE.
I drive my car that way.
I remember that story. Upstate NY or maybe VT. Young guy under the influence crossed the centerline on a curve while pulling a 5th wheel flatbed. The truck a trailer went sideways and killed 7 riders I think.
It seems pack riders think there is safety in numbers I guess. But the numbers that matter are in pounds of steel.
Yup that was the one. Terrible accident. Just looked it up,quickly and it seems he was aquitted
The statistic most quoted:
“3/4 of bike accidents involve other vehicles, while only 1/4 are single-vehicle accidents.”
Thanks
Two bits of excellent advise
I have seen too many motorcyclists doing stupid things and I do not feel sorry for them when they leave body parts all over the road. I feel sorry for the tow truck drivers that have to scrape them off the ground.
Thanks for the link- jusy read a bit- wow!
“Prosecutors had argued that Zhukovskyy, who had taken heroin, fentanyl and cocaine that day, repeatedly swerved back and forth before the head-on crash and told police he caused it. But a judge dismissed eight charges related to whether he was impaired, and his attorney blamed the lead biker, Albert “Woody” Mazza, saying he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the truck while driving drunk”
I enjoyed riding. But with the legalizing of pot, added to drunk drivers and cell phones, I finally quit.
Nothing has changed since the Hurt Report in 1981.
There was a time when motorcycles were attractive to me, but now I wouldn’t even think about being on the road on one with so many speeders and crazy drivers. No protection whatsoever.
There were 5,250,873 police-reported car accidents in 2020
according to the NHTSA. That averages out to 14,386
accidents per day. There were 38,824 people killed in motor
vehicle traffic crashes on U.S. roadways during 2020, a 6.8
percent increase
Sadly, you are correct.

That, and here in Lewis county TN there seems to be a couple of biker fatalities from deer strikes every year.
I commuted by cycle to my second job 16 miles in NW Illinois during the 90s. For a few months worked 2nd shift. I wasn’t fond of the ride home at night, when the corn was yet to be harvested. Deer suddenly popping out dashing across the road.
