Paramount has officially announced that season 5 will be the last of “Yellowstone”.
A sequel is set to premiere on Paramount in December, according to a statement released by Paramount. The sequel doesn’t yet have a title that has been announced. Matthew McConaughey has been “lined up” for it according to Paramount executive producer Chris McCarthy.
McCarthy said in part, “‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits. I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit. The Dutton story continues, picking up where ‘Yellowstone’ leaves off in another epic tale.”
Costner told USA Today in November, “I was only going to do one season, but I’ve done this many. I give everything I can to what I’m doing. But the moment I feel that it’s not right, I’m just going to step away.”
Deadline had reported earlier this year that the series was likely to end with this season. Part of this is reportedly because Costner had wanted to spend less time shooting.
Deadline reported in part:
But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.
Costner is directing and starring in his multi-part western epic Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird that landed at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line.
Given that Costner plays John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton clan, this has been a source of frustration for Sheridan and it is understood to be causing morale problems for the other stars of the show, which includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham.
It seems with this the decision was made to end the series. We will see what is next for the Dutton family in the new sequel.
Kinda like the Godfather and its sequel, two of the best movies in history........
life cycle of a project like Yellowstone is about seven years...the level of talent involved with a series like Yellowstone you will have most moving on to other projects.
Me personally hate it when a creative person gets tied to a series to long. give me a limited series that has good consistent writing over a series that limps for years surviving on the love of what the series once was.
I really don’t care about your friend’s divorce.
Can’t stand Costner but I love the movie “Open Range” with Robert Duval.
Ah. That makes a lot of $en$e.
That's expected. So why are you so concerned about Costner's? He's just a guy on your TV screen.....LOL!
