The newest stupid phrase is “move with pace.”
'Partner with...'
There’s a lot to unpack here.
LOL! Every week when I went to our H.R. Staff Meeting I printed out a copy of my Wonk Word Bingo doc. Many of those words/phrases had a box.
I still hear people say “I’ll bet you a dollar to a doughnut” or “it’s dollars to doughnuts,” even though doughnuts today cost around $1.50.
"Slow network day"
I’m so glad I am retired.
Speaking of overused jargon ...
I find that word, and the mental attitude it represents, repulsive.
“moving forward”
Movie title not like to be: Back to the Moving Forward
My favorite is “stakeholder” as in “we will listen to our stakeholders”.
It means everybody but you!
My company logo is pretty easy.
“How can we make more money”
It worked great until our craphead government shut down my customers and myself for kung flu.
Never heard that one, but I've hears all the rest and used many of them myself.
But we've all heard "Do the dogs like the dog food?" That loon at Bud Light should have asked that simple question about her brilliant Tranny Fluid campaign.
What about "ABC - Always Be Closing"?
What about "Sell the sizzle, not the steak" or "The customer buys a hole, not a drill."?
What about "Right-sizing? Downsizing? RIF?"
I've been out of the business world about six years now, so I'm sure a whole new crop of business stupidity is ready to be harvested.
But, if you want to hear the ultimate corporate BS, just listen to Alissa Heinerscheid speak...
“So I had this super clear mandate. Like, we need to evolve and elevate this incredibly iconic brand and my — what I brought to that was a belief in — okay, what does evolve and elevate mean? It means inclusivity. It means shifting the tone. It means having a campaign that’s truly inclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different and appeals to women and to men. And representation is sort of the heart of evolution. You gotta see people who reflect you in the work. And we had this hangover. I mean, Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor and it was really important that we had another approach.”
They forgot any phrase with “unpack” in it.
Ex “Let’s unpack this idea.”
I effing hate this.
#14. See if the cat licks it up
-I have never heard that phrase before. Sounds gross!
#28. $64K Question.
-I rarely heard that one anymore. It’s very dated, back to some game show scandal involving a quiz show with rigged answers. Back in 1956!
#41. Boil The Ocean.
-Whut? Never heard that one.
Here’s a few more:
Is the climb worth the view
We all have to take a hair cut
If I thought that was the case, we’d be having a much different conversation
One meeting please
That was benchmark
The messaging is wrong
I’ll start socializing that with leadership
Don’t bring me problems without solutions
Sorry...
Any list like this that does have “no brainer”, and especially “ON STEROIDS” is just so much recitation.
Sorry, “Does NOT”.
“30,000 foot view”
