704 patients waiting for hospital bed - INMO [Ireland’s Nurses & Midwives Org]

There were 704 patients in hospitals waiting for admission to a bed this morning, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization.

The hospitals worst affected are University Hospital Limerick with 105 patients waiting, Cork University Hospital with 68 patients waiting, Tallaght University Hospital with 51 patients waiting and Sligo University Hospital with 44.

The high overcrowding comes after the May Bank Holiday weekend. […]

The HSE said that each hospital group implemented plans to alleviate overcrowding in their hospital EDs over the bank holiday weekend, adding that hospital and community teams continue to work closely to identify patients suitable for discharge home, to community beds or to private facilities in order to maximize the number of beds available in acute hospitals. …

The median waiting time is 182 days which is above the OECD average of 116 days. The proportion of patients in Ireland, who were admitted for treatment in 2018, and who waited longer than three months for treatment, was 78.9 per cent compared to the OECD average of 52.4 per cent.

New hospital waiting list figures published today by the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) show that 515,280 people on the Active Waiting Lists (IPDC, GI Scope and Outpatients) are waiting longer than the Sláintecare maximum wait times.
