A bride and groom leaving their wedding reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina, on a golf cart were hit by a car, leading to the woman's death, according to police and the family.
Folly Beach police said about 10 p.m. Friday, a vehicle rear-ended a golf cart in the 1200 block of E. Ashley Avenue.
There was a driver in the car and four people in the golf cart, police said.
Police said one person in the golf cart died and the three others were injured.
A GoFundMe page identifies the bride as Samantha “Sam" Hutchinson, 34, and her new husband as Aric Hutchinson.
The page, organized by the mother of the groom, said family members were escorting the couple from the reception when they were hit from behind.
"The golf cart was thrown over 100 yards and rolled several times," the page says.
It says Aric Hutchinson is in serious condition and has had one of two reconstruction surgeries, numerous broken bones and a brain injury.
The page said the two others were also injured, one seriously.
"I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows," the groom's mother wrote on the page. "Aric has lost the love of his life."
The driver of the car, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, was arrested and charged with three counts of DUI involving great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide, according to the Charleston County Detention Center website.
She is being held with no bond.
Why was a golf cart on a road?
Or was the car on the wrong path?
“Till Death Do Us Part” came way sooner than expected. Very Sad.
It was a road open to golf carts, with a speed limit of 25 mph.
Given the location (Folly Beach) I’m assuming an area where golf carts are common.
Oh geez, what a horrible tragedy. That young woman who caused this accident is going to have a lot of time to think about this.
They're legal on the streets in North Myrtle Beach except on US17.
“There was a driver in the car and four people in the golf cart, police said.”
Excellent police work.
The car had “struck from behind by a drunk driver traveling 65 MPH in a 25 MPH zone
Groom - Aric suffered a brain injury and broke numerous bones, his mother said. The majority of his face is bruised and he remains in serious condition at the hospital, where he has undergone two reconstructive surgeries.
My favorite watering hole is in one, but I rarely go anymore because of the idiots driving those things around.
Did the golf cart have lights on at 10pm?
> Why was a golf cart on a road? <
No offense meant. But a better question: Why was the murderer, Jamie Lee Komoroski, driving drunk?
“...a speed limit of 25 mph.”
She was estimated at 65 mph...
I’m amazed anyone survived.
Driver also has prior speeding tickets in SC.
Following may be useful......... The golf cart is a special road version which are rented on Folly. They have lights and they were on. They are legal for road use on Folly. All Folly roads are narrow just barely OK for 2 cars to pass. Most, including the spot where the tragedy happened, are heavily tree lined which can limit vision. There are no street lights. The speed limit of 25 is a good one for daytime [lots of people and cars] and night.
Yeah, that's pretty fast.
