I lived in NYC (Brooklyn) for 15 years in a much higher crime period than today. White and not physically large. I was never mugged or burgled. He’s not talking about perception, he’s talking about facts. If you live and travel in low-crime parts of New York, you’re quite safe. If you venture into high-crime areas, you are not safe.
That’s why social workers handle dangerous criminals better than the police, especially when the criminals are in the act of actually murdering someone. Imagine the relief, the sheer joy of knowing a social worker will be saving you from someone breaking into your home and shooting at you. /sarc/
