I lived in NYC (Brooklyn) for 15 years in a much higher crime period than today. White and not physically large. I was never mugged or burgled. He’s not talking about perception, he’s talking about facts. If you live and travel in low-crime parts of New York, you’re quite safe. If you venture into high-crime areas, you are not safe.
Safe is a relative term, isn’t it?
First time we ever visited NYC, this was when I was a kid and decades ago, we were doing the tourist thing and came across the cops finding a couple of bodies in a vehicle, and then when we got back to our hotel, a nice one, discovered our room had been burgled.
I’ve been back a couple of times since.
Only time the place was worth visiting was while Giuliani was mayor.
We’ve driven through the city a couple of times since he left.
Once since the coof.
We’ll never go back to visit.
All the big cities have “bad” neighborhoods. The problem is-and I can only speak about Chicago-the “bad” neighborhoods are quite mobile and tend to pop up anywhere.
