A friend of mine suggested I try Netflix's new series; The Diplomat, with Kerri Russell, and Rufus Seawell.
It had an interesting plot and premise and tonight I decided to give it a try.
In the first 10 minutes of this show they had managed to find a way to include every Diversity Demographic possible, including what appeared to be a non-binary character.
Part of the plot concerns the President appointing a career Foreign Service official as the Ambassador to England, and she is female. As most know that plum job usually goes to a high political donor. In this case there is an international crisis and it is deemed necessary to have have someone with real experience in the job.
The next thing I found interesting was the Foreign Minister of England was black, not an impossibility of course, but it's more likely you would see someone of Indian or Middle Eastern descent given the demographics of a changing Britain. I may to need to check the makeup of Parliament to see what is it is these days.
It certainly has what you call a scent of Wokeness about it and I will have to at least watch episode 2 to see where it takes us.
I found it unwatchable for the reasons you cite and more. I couldn’t stand the brattiness of the main character who stomped her feet about having to go to the UK instead of wherever it was in the Middle East she had been assigned to, all the way to the UK.
She acted like a petulant teenager, talking back to the president and being rude to the staff at the embassy even going so far as telling the woman she wouldn’t be caught dead in a tea length dress for the reception, however she DID have a burka packed for her ME assignment. This liberal hates western tradition which includes being expected to wear a fancy dress to a social event, but will grovel to men in the most backward civilization on earth and don a burka with no hesitation. Laughable.
I noticed it was written by a woman. That came through loud and clear in the script. And of course, the main character had to be the proverbial “strong woman” in a leadership position. She was anything but.
I agree. The doddering POTUS is especially good.

Just finished watching all the episodes of Diplomat. Yes, it definitely has a case of “wokeism”, but I still enjoyed it.
Also watched The Night Agent. Wokeism again, as the POTUS is a woman, but I enjoyed the action.
Also enjoyed on Netflix .... Bodyguard
I watched about 15 mins of Citadel. It’s a bit cartoony. Not sure if I’ll try more.
I binged the whole thing. Found it rather enjoyable.
I was surprised by the not-so-subtle references to the ‘mentally challenged’ old male president and the ambitious female vice president.
I look forward to Season 2 — if/when it ever gets released.
I watched the first episode. Yeah, cartoony, but so were a lot of the James Bond movies. It didn’t really grab me, but I’ll probably watch the next episode.
I don’t like kung fu movies because they’re cartoony. That’s how Citadel struck me. Bond movies can go to the edge, but somehow are able to pull it off.
Check out Bodyguard if you have Netflix - suspenseful.
Also, Night Agent - a bit complicated
I don’t have Netflix. I’m currently watching The Pretender on Amazon—fairly old show, also somewhat cartoony, but enjoyable. I’m really looking forward to the next season of Reacher on Amazon but who knows when that will show up.
Yes, the Night Agent was already given a second season.
I believe so was The Diplomat, based on comments from Kerri Russell.
I’m watching The Citadel now.
Diversity where every incompetent person gets a shot at it and it works so good you fell safe for an 8:00 night walk in any large city.
Hah!
I loved this series. Some of the best writing in years. There are a few nods to wokeness (lotsa top level people are black, female, or both). But the Pres is white male, the Brit PM is white male. Both are portrayed as self-centered, short-tempered. But the heroine, played by Kerri Russell, is terrific. She has MANY shortcomings, and admits to some. The real star is Rufus Sewell, her husband, whom she suspects as trying to use her trajectory to be veep as a means for himself to be SoS.
The humor is laugh out loud. And some of the woke is, well, actually the way some of these people behave. For ex., the Brit PM going off on the “barbaric” bloodthirsty Russkies-—but as the season ends there may be more to his positions than you think. One of the best shows I’ve watched in years.
Superb in “Man in the High Tower” series as a top American Nazi.
its clearly a sexist pig movie... because of the very haught actress from India... she drinks a little, teases a lot... and is very easy on the eyes.
Just kidding... I think.
Looks like it will be fun.
the guy is going to depend on her for data she has in her head, that he ONCE knew but cannot recover... it seems.
Oh and did I mention she was much easier to look at and remember than whoever he was...
rofl...
the night agent was great
ROFL... plus plus 100!
