Microsoft’s Windows has always dominated the desktop OS space globally, as the operating system is widely available with many PC manufacturing partners such as Dell, HP and Lenovo. However, a recent trend shows that Windows, the operating system by Microsoft, is rapidly losing popularity in the US, due to the rise of macOS and ChromeOS in the country.

Win, Lin, Apple pings.
Linux is now gaining ground like it’s driving a Bughatti.
It’s the use of cellphones that are driving the choices.
Also Windows is EXPENSIVE. (Not that Apple isn’t)
Apple did it smart, by getting into the cellphone game early.
They are in position to allow people to move seamlessly from cellphone to Ipad to computer to be productive, all without missing a beat.
I find the hard to believe for desktop PCs. Big businesses will stick with Windows.
Legacy issues. Unless Chrome or Apple come out with a way to port over thirty year old software, Microsoft is almost a default choice.
Windows releasing versions that don’t support fairly new hardware is not helping them any.
Coincident with the rise of all that lbqrstuvwxy stuff?
Sorry, could not resist.
MS did it to themselves. I go back to the late 1970’s with an Apple II and the early 1980’s with the IBM PC. I have used many different computers and OS’s. The issue with MS is they have become too cumbersome, too many updates which do nothing to improve the function, just move around the location of features. All the while Apple has made it very easy to just use a computer.
Microsoft also got in early, but botched it.
This will be a year of Linux desktop!
This reminds of the bankruptcy line, gradually and then all at once.
Yes. They tried to replicate a full window’s experience on a cellphone, instead of allowing a more simplified experience that could be ported.
They botched it badly, thanks to Ballmer.
Their follow up windows phone was nice. I had a nicer experience with the Windows than I have had with an Android, but it was too late by then.
I have Ubuntu running on a Celeron class mini PC. I use it mostly to play with something new. I am very happy with it. When my main Windows computer goes, I will replace it with another mini PC running Ubuntu.
and Apple puts their OS crappy computers you can’t fix yourself
Thanks to ProgressingAmerica for the ping!
LOL, do I hear an echo??
I've run Linux Desktops since 2001. Still waiting for the Big Break....
Linux totally owns the Server market -- Windows has a small share, and Apple is almost non-existent.
The Internet runs on Linux; everything else is almost neglitible. Period.
High-performance computers, supercomputers, etc. all run Linux. All. Period.
But for some reason, that's forgotten in headlines like this one.
