New Haven’s Union Station has no seating for travelers due to reports of bed bugs.
It was partially shut down on Monday, but was expected to reopen on Tuesday.
The New Haven Parking Authority said it cleaned surfaces on Monday.
“Overnight, licensed exterminator and cleaning vendors [were] on site to address the hard scape surfaces and reopen the area to the public in the morning,” the parking authority said.
Travelers said they were surprised to find that the seating at Union Station blocked off when they arrived.
“Never heard of bed bugs on tile and wood floors ever before,” said Laure Dibartolo from Middletown.
The parking authority said it worked with vendors and the health department to help keep travelers safe.
Exterminators and cleaners came in Monday into Tuesday to exterminate and clean the surfaces.

Old lumber camp sack bedtime saying.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
where the grey back lice and bed bugs creep.
If I should die before I wake,
who the hell’s gonna spend my stake?
I’m sure they hired the lowest bidder or someone with connections. What could go wrong?
You’re probably right.
Those refute bed bugs are used to living on any hard surface.
Do they have their ‘papers’?
Were they cited, to appear later? In some judge’s chamber?
Every night when my daughter was little and I still tucked her in at night I’d say “sweet dreams, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite!”, as you do.
And of course I trained her to say in mock outrage “Wait, there are bugs in this bed?!”
Dad’s have to get their laughs in wherever they can.
refute = refuge
Authorities left scratching their heads.
“let me guess, it becomes a homeless camp at times and they won’t do anything about it. ”
That was my first thought too.

Bed Bugs and Beyond is closing down, so that might explain it.
Travelers were ticked off.
They flead in disgust. In the old days, they would not have given a sheet, knowing that
so
I saw a homeless guy passed out on the train a couple weeks ago and his coat was literally crawling with bugs. They were large enough to easily see with the naked eye from a few feet away, so probably not bed bugs, just lice. Made me have to rethink sitting down on the train though...
My dads side ran lumber camps for companies back then.
You would have a hard time to believe what went on back then.
Fight in camp? You fired..GTH out.
Talk at the breakfast and supper table? Your life in your hands. The cookie might knock you out to shut you up.
OH, and never gripe about the chuck. Do that and you WILL end up out the door or worse.
Bad cookie, not to worry because the camp wont get good help and the result was that cookie was GONE.
They deducted EVERYTHING from your pay. Especially the debt you owed to the taverns you ran up the last time you were in town.
If you didnt use tobacco? Didnt matter, they still deducted it from your pay. It was there for you to use, so it was your fault if you didnt use it.
Delightful! Will remember on my next trip to Mory’s.
the bedbug epidemic happened to all the libraries in our area ... bums camping out in the libraries ... ultimately, the old furniture was replaced with furniture that was uncomfortable for sleeping as well as being bedbug resistant ... THEN the bums used the library restrooms for shooting up and smoking meth, resulting polluting chunks of the ventilation system with highly toxic compounds, with the bathrooms and their ventilation systems having to be shutdown and hundreds of thousands spent on renovation ... this is a suburban area with several closely spaced small cities composed of mostly of upper middle class, with some of the other working classes mixed in ...
I remember our wonderful library when I was a child. Clean, safe, gracious old brick and stone building with beautiful wood shelves and furniture, large glass windows looking out to big old trees outside. Wonderful classic books in the children’s section with places to sit and read while mother finished looking for books for the siblings. That seems like a dream now. Gone with the wind of leftism.
In the old days they would have closed it off and lit some sulfur candles. Nothing would survive.
This is one of our pun threads from our Freepunner group - 17 years ago!
The puns start at post 45 and go to the end. This was probably the high point of Freepuns. I think there were about 50 different puns from this one article!
