The release of the Verona Papers showed that McCarthy has largely correct in his accusations against communists in the US. It also showed that the problem was much greater than he realized. For example FDR (under his codename “Captain”) was named in the papers. The disinformation campaign continues by communists in the US to this day.
It always amazes me how my fellow conservatives can be so good at recognizing fake news when they hear it, but yet completely fail to recognize fake history.
I always say this to anyone who will listen: The fake news of yesterday becomes the fake history of today. If the powers to be will lie about what is happening right now, why would they put the truth in history books?
For example, every once in a while, I question the truth of some bit of conventional Civil War history, based on the fact that I have a Confederate ancestor who passed down some non-conforming perspectives.
But the same conservative friends and FReepers who rightfully distrust every single word uttered by the MSM, will defend every word printed in a history book, and treat any doubters as heretics.
Now, I don’t claim to know what parts of recorded history are true and not true - but isn’t it pretty safe to assume “history” is full of lies?
Those wanting to read a good full corrective historical study should grab Blacklisted by History, by M. Stanton Evans. It cleans up the giant disinformation campaign and does a good study of the whole era and how the leftists tried to cover up the damage they did.
McCarthy was and always will be an American hero
But today's hoopleheads are too history-ignorant and fall for the LIE that "McCarthyism" was 1) wrong-headed, and 2) all the republican's fault.
American Hero. RFK loved him.
she called it....there was a communist threat....McCarthy was not wrong....
she called it....there was a communist threat....McCarthy was not wrong....and she voted for Kennedy.......but she knew the truth.
The anti anti-Communists were largely successful in their campaign to character assassinate Joe McCarthy. To this day the word “McCarthyism” is a pejorative, even though McCarthy was clearly confronting a clear and present danger and threat to the security of the country.
