It always amazes me how my fellow conservatives can be so good at recognizing fake news when they hear it, but yet completely fail to recognize fake history.

I always say this to anyone who will listen: The fake news of yesterday becomes the fake history of today. If the powers to be will lie about what is happening right now, why would they put the truth in history books?

For example, every once in a while, I question the truth of some bit of conventional Civil War history, based on the fact that I have a Confederate ancestor who passed down some non-conforming perspectives.

But the same conservative friends and FReepers who rightfully distrust every single word uttered by the MSM, will defend every word printed in a history book, and treat any doubters as heretics.

Now, I don’t claim to know what parts of recorded history are true and not true - but isn’t it pretty safe to assume “history” is full of lies?

"...[I]sn’t it pretty safe to assume “history” is full of lies?"

A similar sentiment has been attributed to many famous types (Napoleon in particular) but the original (probably) came from Bernard Le Bovier de Fontenelle in 1728 in L'Origine des Fables....

"[T]here are no ancient histories other than these fables."*
... often recounted as, "History is a lie agreed upon."

* Originally, "[I]l n'y a point d'autres Histoires anciennes que les Fables."

I'm there with you. I found out a lot of things I was taught to believe are misleading and/or incorrect.

I always say this to anyone who will listen: The fake news of yesterday becomes the fake history of today. If the powers to be will lie about what is happening right now, why would they put the truth in history books?

The corrupt deep state cabal wants history to look a certain way because that helps preserve their power.

For example, every once in a while, I question the truth of some bit of conventional Civil War history, based on the fact that I have a Confederate ancestor who passed down some non-conforming perspectives.

It was learning some things I didn't know about the Civil War that caused me to realize much of our history is just lies.

But the same conservative friends and FReepers who rightfully distrust every single word uttered by the MSM, will defend every word printed in a history book, and treat any doubters as heretics.

I try to get people to see this all the time, and while they are willing to admit there is a lot of lying going on now they absolutely refuse to believe there was any lying going on during the Lincoln years. The government was saintly and sacred back then.

Now, I don’t claim to know what parts of recorded history are true and not true - but isn’t it pretty safe to assume “history” is full of lies?

Especially when you find out things like the war was *NOT* about slavery, it was about economic power in the Northeast, and that the Confederates didn't attack first, Lincoln did. There was no "expansion" of slavery, that was just a lie.

Pretty much all the things people think they know about the Civil War are just lies the governing powers told us.

Just out of sheer curiosity, what were some of his perspectives ? I'd like to see if they jibe with some of what I've gleaned over the years.
