The NIH of Fauci and the CDC were in the middle of a decades long turf war. Both were more interested in budget (#1) and Ego (#2) than Public Health. They were busy working on proposals to enhance their budget and power over the other branch of government using SAR NOVEL... like Putin uses Belarus.
Trump, any president, was in a difficult position. Taking sides in a bureaucratic turf war is not the way to acomplish anything in the bureaucracy. The bureaucracy will even further unite against the unwanted interloper.

Had he issued a mea culpa, I could accept that they deceived him. I have not seen a mea culpa, but I believe he would have lost the election no matter what. Had he adhered to principles, he’d have my unwavering support despite the loose twits.
