Barry Humphries, the Tony-winning comic actor behind the snobbish diva Dame Edna Everage, died Saturday at a hospital in Syndey, Australia.

The 89-year-old was being treated for complications following a hip replacement in February, but had brushed aside recent concerns about his condition and even made plans for a countrywide tour, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“He was completely himself until the very end, never losing his brilliant mind, his unique wit and generosity of spirit,” his family said in a statement on Saturday night. “With over 70 years on the stage, he was an entertainer to his core, touring up until the last year of his life and planning more shows that will sadly never be.”

Dame Edna and Madea are the types of things the media is trying to portray as what is being “banned” by the legislation to protect children being passed by GOP legislatures, when in reality what is being targeted is exposing children to pornography and strippers.

Read somewhere today that Humphries was rather conservative. I don’t know how that really translates into something kin to American conservatism but it seems he had principles.

My father a dyed-in-the-wool herero if there ever was such a thing loved this guy’s act. RIP.

Dame Edna was a joke, along the lines of Benny Hill and Flip Wilson. Everyone thought it was funny, and it was.

Today, people rightly recognize the efforts of the homosexual and transgender movements are not jokes.

They are assaults, and are recognized as such.

Another like it is the "Mrs. Brown's Boys" starring Brendan O'Carroll as Mrs. Brown. If you haven't seen it, you should --- it's hysterically funny (and exceedingly filled with Irish profanity).

Dame Edna was hilarious.

Everyone knew it was just a joke.

He didn't "demand" that people take him seriously. They just had fun playing along with the act.

"Dame Edna was hilarious."

Kenny Everett back in the 80s had a character, Cupid Stunt, who crossed "her" legs very extravagantly, but it was "all in the best POSSIBLE taste."

Years of out right guffaws and laughs thanks to Barry and his characters, Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson

They were a clean act, no foul language, albeit full of double entendre and irreverence. Brilliant writing and delivery.

At one point, Sir Les was so popular in Australia that the then Oz PM asked Barry to cool it a bit because he was putting Australian politicians a bad light globally.

Barry's humour and art will be missed.
