Five NFL players suspended for violating league's gambling policy, including Lions' 2022 first-round pick

The NFL has made it very clear that gambling on games won't be tolerated and five different players found that out the hard way on Friday. The NFL has announced that Stanley Berryhill III, Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus, C.J. Moore and Shaka Toney have all been suspended for gambling.

The Lions were hit the hardest by the suspensions with four players being banned (Berryhill, Williams, Cephus, and Moore) while Toney plays for the Commanders. The most notable name on the list is Williams, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

How did they take away Pete Rose’s career?

Because of the lifetime ban, Rose cannot work in Major League Baseball ever again and, despite his stellar playing career, he is not eligible for the Hall of Fame.

So in essence.. they TOOK AWAY HIS ESTABLISHED CAREER PERMANENTLY!

The NFL players, who did the VERY SAME THING, are SUSPENDED for a handful of games.

This will only lead to the NEXT SMARTA$$ who will think he can get away with it because he's SMARTER than those who got caught.

These NFL players apparently bet on other teams not their own teams. Pete Rose bet on his own team. So there are some differences.

And a major difference is probably that baseball and football have different rules regarding gambling.

I’m slowly but surely losing interest in all sports.

And it’s not(only) because the Dallas cowboys are losers in the Superbowl chase for the last 29 years.

I no longer look to the players as anything but very flawed, less than admirable human beings.

Gambling is Gambling whether you're betting on yourself, or against yourself. It's UNACCEPTABLE to be allowed or even tolerated since as a participant you have the ability to affect the outcome thus controlling the wager.

What happened to Pete Rose occurred 34 YEARS ago.

Didn’t know about Williams, and the suspension either.
Looking forward to seeing who the Lions draft next weekend.
Holmes has done a good job so far.
I expect a 9 win season. The last 2 years have been fun to watch that’s for sure.

I've seen several people who ruined their lives (went to jail) because of gambling, I don't see the good it does.

I read a book about the history of gambling in America. It has gone up and down in popularity over our nation's history. The more widespread it becomes, the more people are hurt. Then comes a backlash, and it gets limited again.

Seems to be spreading faster and further this time around. Maybe that's because more people have excess money than times in the past. But, I still believe... it will peak, and there WILL be a pushback. Sometime.
