Ozark Mountain Daredevils Kick Off 51st Year With New Version Of Iconic Hit, 'Jackie Blue' The Ozark Mountain Daredevils mark their 51st year by bringing their past, present and future together into "Jackie Blue 2," a newly-recorded version of their iconic song. Available today on all major streaming platforms, "Jackie Blue 2" updates the 1975 hit with the vocals of Molly Healey, who has been performing the fiddle, cello and backing vocals with the Daredevils since 2012. Listen to "Jackie Blue 2" HERE (via Saguaro Road Records).

Originally released in 1975, "Jackie Blue" rose to #3 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart and reached #1 on the Cash Box and Record World magazine charts. A departure from the roots-infused sound of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the song has remained popular around the world ever since with its breezy melodies that belie a sad tale.

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils formed in Springfield, MO in 1971 and have delivered genre-defying music to fans around the world ever since. A wholly original mix of country-rock and electric bluegrass, the band is also known for their poetic and whimsical lyrics and show-stopping harmonies. In 2022, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils celebrated their 50th anniversary with a yearlong tour, a documentary for Ozarks Public Television, their Grand Ole Opry debut and a set of performances with the 50-piece Springfield Symphony Orchestra. That “Jackie Blue 2” is quite good.

The live version is just so-so. It just shows what those recording engineers and great studio musicians can do. Not many groups sound live like they do on their hit recordings.

After 51 years I didn’t expect the falsetto to be working so well. Hell...mine left me when I was 40. Not unexpectedly, a woman is singing the lead-in vocals. Still, a nice arrangement.

“The Ozark Mountain Daredevils formed in Springfield, MO in 1971”

That’s interesting...I was going to Mizzou in Columbia, MO in 1971. That’s 170 miles NE of Springfield. I had no idea we had a hometown grown Missouri band that hit it big.

I had to laugh — in the live version, the band member says “Missour-ee.” All my friends from the southern part of the state always pronounced it ‘Missour-uh.”

My folks have been in southeast Missour-ee since 1849.

I never cared for the 1st version, so I’ll be skipping the 2nd.

Their first album was pretty good. Jackie Blue wasn’t the best song on the album, says Mrs CG.

Interesting. I had a girlfriend in Sikeston for a short while.

My buddies from over Boliver way were all “Missour-uh”. Is it a SE vs SW Missouri thing?

The original was certainly catchy - but one verse reminded me of a girl I dated in high school who, as time went on, showed her soul to be dark & satanic.

“Everyday in her indigo eyes
I watch sun set but I don’t see it rise”

The single and this V2 edited out the verse.

The victim. Looks like a nice kid, unlike those horrid killers. Don't "black lives matter" anymore?
