A woman on TikTok had some interesting opinions on potluck etiquette, and TikTok let her know that she had the wrong idea.
Katie K (@Katiekcomedy) made a video regarding a potluck she recently attended, specifically a fellow attendee’s choice to bring a single pizza.
“I didn’t think as a person in my 30s, that I would need to say this to other people in their 30s, but here we are,” she started.
She went on to explain how someone brought one pizza for the entire group to share at a potluck, which she disagreed with.
This magazine editor's closet is packed with chic, eclectic and bold pieces from metallic jackets to shimmery chunky heels “That’s not how a potluck works,” she said multiple times. She felt the need to provide more food on behalf of that person. “I had to order four more pizzas so that everyone at the potluck could eat pizza.”
Although she felt that there was a problem with the person’s potluck strategy, not everyone else did.
“I don’t think you quite understand how potlucks work,” replied @hollyfleming165.
“The whole point in a potluck is everyone brings a little thing and it turns into a bunch of things. You’re wrong,” said @unfiltered_me7.
Nevertheless, she had a response to people arguing with her.
“If you’re the person thinking to yourself, ‘There’s no problem with that,’ then you are the problem and everyone at the potluck doesn’t like you,” @Katiekcomedy said.
She further clarified her point in a separate video, responding to the opposition.
“I don’t think that you should bring something for 30 people,” she said. “I’m saying maybe more than one pizza that one person, maybe two, can eat off of.”
Still, the comment section was not buying her explanation and still sided with the person who brought the single pizza.
“The pizza guy was the only one who understood the assignment lol,” said @charaallandis.
Unfortunately for her, @Katiekcomedy could not sway the minds of her viewers, and her opinion on how to attend a potluck remained unpopular.
This whole fiasco is really just a slice of life.
Not necessarily, 2 pizzas is 16 pieces for 30 people vs 8 for 30. So, it gives half of the attendees an option to have a slice.
Nix on the pizza ...
he could have brought a dessert or 2 ...
A cheese cake would have been nice or a cream pie ...
Which is worse: Contributing to people overeating, or your friends thinking you are a cheapskate?
How many slices would you get out of your cheesecake? Much more than 8?
I always bring pickled cream herring and crackers….and breath mints.
I like to feed people, but that’s just me …
Overall, one pizza is fine because showing up empty handed should be avoided. And so, he gets a pass.
But, again - in response - 2 pizzas for 30 people won’t contribute to over eating.
There are only so many helpings of nasty creamed green bean casserole and quinoa salad one can eat in a lifetime. I’ll take a pizza slice any day.
I always bring a haggis.
And leave with a haggis...
I always tried to take something children would like since most family pot-lucks are short on that option. The ground beef and potato casserole or macaroni and cheese always seemed to go over well. There is usually plenty of potato salad and green been casseroles for everyone to enjoy two helpings.
If taking a pizza, I probably would have taken two, but it was a pot-luck. Take what you can. People will be lucky if they get a slice.
Was it an 8, 10, 12, or 16-inch pizza?
Just watched the video. I wish I hadn't. What a self-centered psychopath.
Pepsi!!?? That’s like giving everyone the middle finger.
Ooh vienna sausage aspic. One of my favorites
A potluck is where you eat other people’s leftovers.
I’m glad this Karen doesn’t go to MY church. Folks bring just a little more food than they would eat themselves. One average fellow doesn’t eat a whole pizza.
Her name is Karen.
This is why I don’t attend potlucks, I like what I like and I don’t like most of what other people make. And I certainly ain’t sharing my pizza!
