A ghost lake that vanished decades ago in California's central valley has come back to life with a vengeance after torrents of rain resuscitated the body of water Tulure Lake, wedged between San Francisco and Los Angeles, was once the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River but dried up by the 1920s
'All of the crops are completely flooded and ruined,' resident Martina Sealy told CNN.
'It takes a lot of jobs for people. That's a lot of food that we provide for up and down California and all around the nation. It's pretty scary.'
'This is just from the rain. But when the snow melts, there's nowhere for it to go besides here.'
Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California at Los Angeles told the outlet that the ground 'literally sunk in some places by 10 or 15 feet over the past decade.
'That has literally changed the topography of the historical lakebed. Some places are lower even than they were the last time there was a big flood event.'
Sidonio Palmerin told CNN that he remembers the 'last great flood in 1983' and how it took nearly two years to dry out.
'We lost half our school population and about one-third of our city population,' he said.
'A lot of the people that were relocated lost their homes, their cars. It took a long time to recuperate.'
It comes as a massive snowpack that piled up on the Sierra Nevada over the winter threatens more flooding tripling in size by summer

That's a lot of real estate about to go under water.
Looks like the Global Warming draught is over. Can we get back to normal now?
No NEVER.
Don’t you know that heavy rain and snow pack are proof of “Climate Change”?
And EVERYBODY knows that climate should NEVER change.
So now Gavin Noiseome can declare martial law and arrest:
Mother Nature!
Yup. When the 500 year flood comes along...... I see houses for sale in our area and always look at the flood potential. Quite a few are 8/10. Automatic NO. And, there is a LOT of snow just uphill. The official measuring location is well over 800 inches. A couple ski areas are saying they’ll be open until August on limited runs.
Some ski areas are closed due to the lifts being buried. What a fraud.
Looks like the democraps efforts to fix globull warming have succeeded beyond their wildest imaginations!!
LOL! Yup! Saw a pic of a ski patrol person leaning on one of the pulleys at the top of one of the towers with summer shot next to that. Guessing they were snow machined up the hill.
â Which is why you never purchase property and build on a flood plainâ
The money lenders at one time wouldnât loan money to build a house on property on a flood plain.
Those rules changed about 25-30 years ago and the builders started building and selling homes built in flood zones. Buyer beware.
My kin in CA would never drink tap water. It’s that nasty. I bet they’d appreciate a reservoir of fresh water.
Thirsty Cauliphonyans are in fear of a freshwater “inland sea” forming in their state. Life is hell.
Yet the local media in California tell us we are still in a severe drought and under water restriction.
The water will drain to the sea and not be recaptured.
Reminds me of the billions upon billions of dollars wasted for High Speed Rail.
“The rail authority estimated in 2008, when voters approved $9 billion for the system, it would cost $33 billion and start running by 2020.
The latest estimate, made earlier this year, set the cost at $105 billion...after a decade of troubled construction $10.3 billion has been spent so far’”
My understanding is that after all this, not a single rail has been laid down for this train from nowhere to nowhere that no one will ride.
Good questions.... People use to sell Florida swamp land too... but no one was selling lakes.
Dontcha knowâŚ
And CA hasnât built a new dam/reservoir in over 40 years.
//
And THAT started with not completing the resivour and canal water management system as designed, thus destroying its 100 % flood control ability by eliminating the overflow outlet canal to the ocean ,
the stop brought about by Communist reds that camafloged themselves as
” green” ( the opposite of red , which proves how duplicitous they ALL are )
by eco nuts in a coastal town.
All
On
Purpose
.
Yes, and seems quite a few decided to farm on that land.
Yes. As the author says, itâs âwedged in between San Francisco and Los Angeles.â Big lake, but itâs not exactly âwedgedâ between two points that are nearly 400 miles apart
