Question:

What enforcement mechanism exists?

Seriously, I don’t get it.

If (let’s say) Arkansas votes to run on the time zone of Tashkent, what can anyone do about it besides shouting “that’s (subjectively) stupid, and you ought not do it”?

The idea is far from becoming reality. Once the bill gets a final House vote, it still has to clear the Senate. And even if signed to law by Gov. Greg Abbott, the measure would still require an OK from Congress.

Just where in the Constitution is that one of the feds enumerated powers?

Whatever happen ed to states rights?

TX needs to tell congress to go pound sand.

Here’s a possible solution to the problem. Texas needs to declare it’s independence. Might get a few other states to join them. Just let me move there first.

Why not be on Standard Time forever? That’s the normal time. With DLST kids will be going to school in Dec. and Jan. in the dark.

Why stay with DST instead of going to straight time?

Which was first? Daylight Savings time or Standard Time/Local mean time?

Local meantime was first, that said personally after watching the Zulu clock for many years (Greenwich Mean Time, Coordinated Universal Time) gets my vote.

So what if it’s 1200Z and it’s 0800 local. All time zones are coordinated at that point.

What time did The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson come on? 0400Z.

There are still telephone numbers and short wave universal time ticks available to coordinate the local clocks.

This is not the role of the federal government. Regulating interstate commerce has nothing to do with the clocks.

The closer a place is to the equator the less sense “daylight” time makes.

To: McGruff; All

Am all for DST in summer, etc—late
sunsets but...
If year round—pitch black in
morning as kids go to school [it’s
said]

It was mentioned DST not much of a
difference as you get near equator.

In winter; 4:30 pm game Patriots vs Dolphins
Game in Foxboro MA: dark
Game in Miami: still light out
FL also a bit further west.

Even in same time zone there can be
variances. I live near Boston but when I
visit Pittsburgh & Akron in summer,
sunset seems about 45 min later
