Vanity - Need Orange Beach Suggestions

Posted on 04/07/2023 11:26:25 AM PDT by Tea Drinker

Doing a driving trip to visit our son and DIL in Fayetteville NC. He’s stationed at Bragg. This is the third time we’ve done the drive from AZ. Try to do different stops along the way. We ate lunch on the beach outside of Mobile last year and we’d like to stay a couple of nights at Orange Beach. I’d like to stay on the beach so looking for hotel and food suggestions. We normally stay at Marriott chain hotels as they have a nice reward program. I think their brands at Orange Beach don’t have direct beach access. We like to eat locally owned when we travel. Any help appreciated.

I’ve stayed at the Perdido Beach Resort a couple of times, but before Orange Beach was built over. For food, you have to go to the Floribama on the border. Find a place that has royal red shrimp too.

Doc’s. I prefer the canal st location but the new one on beach blvd is good. Hog Wild is a great BBQ place in Gulf Shores on Hwy 59; the brisket was excellent.

As another poster stated spring break is ongoing. Might try an airbnb of a condo since hotel space is limited vs number of condos.

Just go to the outer banks in nc, not too far from bragg. Tough time all around for beach deals, no matter the state.

Doc’s Seafood has really good shrimp. Tempura batter and you make your own cocktail sauce.

There are no good restaurants in Orange Beach. You have to drive a ways. We stayed in a nice Condo right on the beach for the nephews wedding a few years ago but it was really pricey like $800 per night.

Felix’s Fish Camp is an old time family favorite, though I personally haven’t been there in years. It’s just east of Mobile right on the water, before you get to Spanish Fort.

Here’s a link to the Trip Advisor website for a direct link to Felix’s reviews.

I have often used Trip Advisor as a resource when looking for food and lodging recommendations, and even things to do, when going on a trip. I would say the reviews are pretty reliable. You can even look to see recent reviews.

If you’re traveling cross-country from AZ to NC, then I highly recommend the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, AR. It is a unique and wonderful diversion (and last time I was there, it was extremely dog-friendly).

Orange Beach - Is this something to do with Don Trump?

The Flora Bama Yacht Club is good. Fischer's at Orange Beach Marina is good too, the upstairs is fancy and the downstairs is more lowbrow, both are great. The Crab Trap is good and if you feel like driving over onto Perdido Key (10 miles) the Sunset Grill is good. Felix's Fish Camp that was mentioned is outside Mobile, that's 30+ miles away but it's good.

Rent a condo on the beach for the stay, hotels aren't really the way to go in that area.

Yeah, I was thinking if he needed a place to eat before getting to Orange Beach, it might be a nice place to try. But it’s still a drive as you mentioned.

If you don’t get in trouble and if they already made the change, please stop and spray paint “BRAGG” over the word “Liberty” on the liberal’s name change of my beloved Ft. Bragg.

Ditto the suggestion of Doc’s for shrimp.

Also, Louisiana Lagniappe is good, if a little more spendy.

Most everyone stays in condos, and IIRC most have a 3 night minimum. Try airbnb, brett-robinson, or vrbo.

I was there last fall, and I enjoyed Cobalt and Mikee’s Seafood. The best spot, IMO, however, is the Tin Top Restaurant in Bon Secour. Little bit of a drive, but well worth it. Doc’s is fine, but not great by any means.

I wonder if Cotton’s is still open? They had pretty good lobster.

If you’re in the mood for a beer and a band...the Flora-Bama is fun.
