As Twitchy reported earlier, Defense Department spokesman John Kirby appeared in the press briefing room Thursday to play up the Biden administration’s finding that the Afghanistan withdrawal disaster was President Donald Trump’s fault; the only reason it looks like President Joe Biden’s screw-up is that he was “severely constrained by conditions” set by Trump. Biden certainly didn’t feel constrained by any of Trump’s executive orders when he took office, but this he couldn’t do anything about.
Kirby did his best Baghdad Bob impression, claiming that “For all this talk of chaos, I just didn’t see it.” He missed the video of Afghan men falling to their deaths after clinging onto landing gear? He missed the suicide bomber who killed 13 American service members? He didn’t see the videos of mothers handing their infant children to Marines guarding the barrier around the airfield?
Kirby wasn’t done yet, though. He did claim it was “ludicrous” that the U.S. left millions of dollars of military hardware in Afghanistan for the Taliban to use. He’s right — it was billions of dollars worth of hardware.

Just a couple of weeks ago the Taliban released photos showing just some of the equipment left behind after the U.S. bugged out.

His argument is it wasn’t ours, it was theirs because we… gave it to them? Jen Psaki herself said in 2021 their intention was NOT to leave behind the 5-7 billion dollars worth of aircraft, guns, vehicles, ammunition, and specialized equipment. Which is it, @WhiteHouse?

The difference there was that the stuff we left in South Vietnam was left to the South Vietnamese government to continue its fight against North Vietnam.
The stuff we left in Afghanistan we KNEW it was going to fall directly into Taliban hands.

Technically he’s correct. We didn’t leave millions of dollars in Afghanistan. We left 85 BILLION with a B, dollars worth of equipment.

Okay he want to use millions, there are 1000 million in one billion. If we left 8 billion that would make 8000 million dollars. (Using USA definition of billion not UK’s)

Kirby probably knows that he can say ANYTHING and the propagandist left media will report it as fact. Worse, far too much of the public is too stupid, too disinterested, or too bought into big brother as their savior. We now tolerate blatant lies on important issues as if it doesn’t matter.
Kirby could go on TV and say he’s the Easter Bunny and CNN/MSNBC/ABC/NBC//CBS will report it as fact. Anyone with dissenting views, well, there’s those right wing kooks and racists...
